Under the direction of the Early Head Start Coordinator, provides training and ongoing support to Early Head Start teachers and educational assistants in both district classrooms and Early Head Start child care partner sites.

Work Year: Follows the Pittsburgh Public Schools education staff calendar plus additional paid work days during the summer months to maintain contact with and support the Early Head Start staff and child care partners.

Salary:
Preschool Teacher II Salary Schedule (starting at $42, 382 per year)

FLSA Status: Exempt

Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education with 24 + college level credits in infant/toddler or related course work.

- Pennsylvania certification in Early Childhood Education is required; Master's Degree preferred.

- A minimum of five (5) years of satisfactory teaching experience in an early childhood, child care, or Early Head Start setting required.

- Experience in a mentoring or coaching position preferred.

- Applicants must have knowledge of exemplary programs for infants, toddlers, and families.

Competencies:
Education and Training - Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects.

Law and Government - Adherence to the Pennsylvania School Code, Pennsylvania Loyalty Act and No Child Left Behind Act.

Administration and Management - Knowledge of resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, and coordination of people and resources.

Customer and Personal Service - Knowledge of principles and processes or providing customer and personal services.

Psychology - Knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation; and assessments.

Stakeholder Relations - The ability and willingness to interact and communicate effectively with stakeholders.

Essential Job Functions:
1. Monitors classroom instruction for developmentally appropriate practices and provides feedback to teachers, education assistants, and child care site directors.

2. Conducts in-class demonstrations by modeling promising educational practices.

3. Maintains documentation of observations and develops curriculum goals.

4. Ensures that classrooms are properly equipped and have adequate supplies.

5. Ensures that classrooms are exhibiting quality as evidenced by the ITERS, CLASS, RISE, or other tools.

6. Monitors classrooms, lesson plans, and anecdotal notes.

7. Mentors teaching staff in classrooms and partnership sites in order to provide the best environment for children.

8. Adheres to the Head Start Performance Standards and the Head Start Act.

9. Supports the transition of EHS students into the PPS Head Start/Early Childhood Program.

10. Completes developmental and sensory screenings for children enrolled in child care partner sites within 45 days of enrollment.

11. Supports teaching staff in conducting developmental assessments and complimentary individualized plans for enrolled children.

12. Prepares materials to share with classroom teaching staff to support quality early learning environments.

13. Provides information requested by Early Head Start Coordinator.

14. Provides in-service training.

15. Attends regular professional development training.

16. At times, is required to travel to regional, state, and national Early Head Start conferences.

17. Replaces school district classroom teachers or assistant teachers when necessary.

18. Ensures that classrooms are adequately staffed and in ratio.

19. Performs other duties as assigned by the Early Head Start Coordinator.

Additional Job Information:
Work Environment:
1. Indoors in busy office or classroom, working in close proximity to co-workers and teaching staff.
2. Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation (personal vehicle) to travel from one location to another to visit classrooms.
3. Frequently required to work at fast pace.
4. Requires considerable concentration and creativity.
5. Subject to stress caused by a changing environment, diversity in the organization, tight deadlines and work load.

Physical Demands: Employee will be required to operate computer system for data entry, and have the ability to complete necessary paperwork. Must be able to travel from one location to another to visit classrooms. This position requires minimum physical effort and not subjected to Occupational Health and Safety risks.
