    POSITION DESCRIPTION:
    Instructors report to the Coordinator of the Adult Learning Center. Instructors plan, develop, and implement the Adult Basic and Secondary Education program curriculum, which is aligned with the College and Career Readiness Standards (CCRS) for Adults. Instructors provide information to learners about the HSE exams, GED, HiSET and TASC, and prepare them for those exams. Instructors help each learner develop and follow up on an education and career plan.

    QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Able to interact with anyone regardless of background with dignity and respect
    • Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university
    • Two years or more experience teaching grade equivalents 6-8 and/or 9-12, teaching pre-literate adults, and/or preparing youth and adults for high school equivalency (HSE) exams.
      • Should be in a program that has outcomes/ targets for attendance/ retention and learner growth
    • Experience proctoring standardized assessments and using results to inform instruction.
    • Able to work all months of the year except July on Monday - Thursday, 9 am - 12 pm and/or 5:30 - 8:30 pm
    • Proficient using technology and willing to become proficient using the online learning platform used by the ABE-ASE program
    • If don't hold valid Adult Basic Education Authorization (ABEA) issued by CDE, must be willing to earn
    • Preferred
      • Valid ABEA
      • Strong knowledge of a Learning Management System (LMS) (e.g., Google Classroom, Canvas, Moodle, Blackboard, or Edmodo).
      • Current certification for proctoring the online Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) 11/12.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: May include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Access to reliable transportation, regular attendance, and timeliness are essential to performing the essential duties and responsibilities of the position.

    INSTRUCTION
    • Participates in student centered coaching with the Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment Coach and in learning communities to ensure program is of the highest instructional quality and professionalism
    • Uses College and Career Readiness Standards (CCRS), results from standardized assessment and HSE practice test results to plan instruction and to evaluate learner progress
    • Uses adult appropriate materials (not materials clearly designed for children or teens)
    • Uses level appropriate materials and activities aligned with CCRS and standardized assessment results and appropriate for language learners while delivering instruction
    • Uses written instructional plans and consistently aligns planning and instruction with CCRS aligned curriculum and learners' goals
    • Integrates career exploration, planning, and monitoring into instruction
    • Delivers instruction from start time to end time of each class as listed on the schedule, exhibiting cultural sensitivity, enthusiasm and a positive attitude
    • Retains learners and ensures that at least 70% of learners who begin the course take a standardized posttest after earning the required minimum hours of instruction
    • Engages and challenges all students through active learning, rigor and higher order thinking skills so that at least 35% of learners improve one or more levels on the approved standardized assessment

    ONLINE LEARNING
    • Provides activities for learners to complete using the online learning platform used by the ABE-ASE program
    • Monitors learner progress; contacts learners who are not actively using the system to determine if they need technical support
    • Reports instructional hours in LACES

    OTHER
    • Helps with outreach and recruitment for classes, e.g. share Facebook posts; gives flyers to current students; delivers flyers in the community
    • Helps enroll learners
      • Review registration forms for completeness and accuracy
      • Facilitate orientation using slides and a script
      • Administers online standardized assessments
    • Actively contributes to program improvement efforts by completing assigned tasks with integrity and enthusiasm and by meeting deadlines
    • Communicates at least weekly with tutor(s) supporting learners in the building
    • Participates in a professional manner in staff meetings and professional learning opportunities (must participate in 12 professional learning opportunities offered by ALC in 2018-19)
    • Communicates in a positive, supportive manner with adult learners and community members
    • Updates attendance in LACES daily using the correct subject area, reaching out to non-attending and struggling learners after the second unanticipated absence
    • Communicates changes to information stored in the program's database, LACES, to the Administrative Assistant in a timely manner, e.g. telephone number, address, employment, outcomes, and barriers
    • Works closely with community organizations that support adults with barriers to employment and education to ensure learners have information about accessing these services
    • Collaborates with Navigation Coordinator to provide supportive services to learners who are looking for employment or seeking to enter postsecondary education.
    • Assist in hiring qualified ABE-ASE instructors

    SALARY: Pay based on qualifications. Adams County School District 14 is a direct deposit employer. This is a grant-funded position with funding contingent on annual approval in the federal budget. All new employees must be fingerprinted per H.B. 90-1077 at a cost of $40.00 to the employee.
