  • REPORTS TO: Director of Curriculum and Instruction

    PRIMARY PURPOSE:

    The Instructional Coach is a critical lever in improving student achievement. The role of the coach is to build teacher capacity and their understanding of instructional practices focused on Illinois Learning Standards and data driven instruction. The Instructional Coach promotes a rigorous academic environment that actively engages students; incorporates best educational practices; creates an inclusive environment that celebrates diversity and addresses the needs of all learners; and supports the social/emotional development of the students. An instructional coach is a learner who models continuous improvement, lifelong learning, and goes above and beyond to ensure student success. The instructional coach works collaboratively with the district leadership team and the Department of Curriculum and Instruction. The Instructional Coach promotes reflection, provides guidance and structure where needed, and focuses on strengths, collaboration and common issues of concern. The Instructional Coach is responsible for ensuring high-quality instruction in classrooms through job embedded professional development, modeling, co-planning, co-teaching and providing feedback to teachers. This is not a supervisory position and does not include evaluation of colleagues.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Holds a minimum of a bachelor's degree from an accredited university
    • Meets all current licensing requirements including endorsement(s) in the appropriate teaching areas, as determined by the Illinois State Board of Education
    • Experience working with diverse populations or EL Endorsement preferred
    • Successful teacher leadership that demonstrates professional qualities and strong interpersonal skills, including giving and receiving constructive feedback
    • Strong knowledge of pedagogy and of Illinois Learning Standards across content areas
    • Evidence of gathering, analyzing and using data to inform decisions
