Job Description
REPORTS TO: Principal

JOB GOALS:
1. To provide the leadership and expertise necessary to ensure that the library media program is an integral part of the instructional program of the school.
2. As information specialist to provide an appropriate collection of materials, print, and non-print, and assistance to teachers and students in accessing and using them.
3. As teacher to provide formal and informal instruction in information skills and new technologies to the whole school community.
4. As instructional consultant to provide assistance in instructional planning to individual teachers and curriculum planning across grade levels.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Operates and supervises the library/media center where assigned and developed flexible policies for the use of resources.
2. evaluates, selects and requisitions new library/media center materials, including appropriate new technologies, that meet the needs of the school curriculum.
3. Informs teachers and the school community concerning new materials, equipment and services in the library/media center.
4. Catalogs all instructional materials. Is responsible for seeing that new materials are processed and inventoried.
5. prepares and administers the library/media center budget.
6. Supervises, with the help of parent volunteers in the performance of their duties.
7. Maintains an up-to-date collection by weeding obsolete and worn materials from the collection.
8. Participates in library, technology, and other educational and professional associations.
9. Instructs students in information skills as an integral part of the content and objectives of the school's curriculum.
10. Instructs students in the use of technology resources , instructional software and the Internet, as they are relevant to grade-level and information skills curricula.
11. Promote, reading through the sharing of high quality children's literature.
12. Promotes appropriate conduct of students engaged in library/media center activities.
13. Helps students to develop habits of independent research and to develop skills in the use of reference materials, both print and non-print.
14. Assists in reading guidance to all students, including those with special or exceptional needs or interests.
15. Arranges library/media center displays and exhibits of library/media center materials to interest student and teachers.

As Instructional Consultant:

16. Provides assistance to teachers in using information resources, acquiring and assessing instructional materials, and incorporating information skills that supports the classroom curriculum.
Provides assistance to teachers in planning and implementing lessons which utilize a variety of media formats and technologies to achieve curriculum objectives.
17. Is aware of new developments in information and instructional technologies and provides leadership and expertise for their incorporation into the instructional program of the school.
18. Participates in building district and grade-level curriculum development and assessment projects.
19. Attends and participates in monthly Library/Media Specialist Meetings.
20. Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

EVALUATION:
Consistent with current Agreement Between the Longmeadow School Committee and the Longmeadow Education Association.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Salary and work year in accordance with current Longmeadow Educators Association (Unit A) and Longmeadow School Committee Agreement

Job Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Meet Massachusetts state certification requirements.
2. Knowledgeable of Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks.
3. Educational preparation relevant to area of instruction.
4. Prior relevant successful experience preferred.
5. experience with Destiny Library Software, Accelerated Reader, and Responsive Classroom Preferred.
6. Strong interpersonal and communication skills required.
7. Willingness to contribute to the development of computer literacy and 21st Century skills required.
8. Such other qualifications or alternatives as the Principal and Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
