***This school has been designated as a Level 4 or 5 School by the State of Massachusetts. This designation allows districts to utilize the new tools granted in the landmark education reform law that was passed in 2010 to provide additional services for these schools. Some of these tools will allow for extended time and extra compensation where needed.

Additional responsibilities such as extended day and/or year, schedules, and duties are subject to collective bargaining and turnaround plan.

General Description:

Madison Park Technical Vocational HS is Boston Public Schools' only technical vocational high school. Madison Park currently supports 19 technical programs of study to prepare students for post-secondary options in higher education, careers in their respective program of study directly out of high school, or both. Our mission is to provide our students with rigorous academic and technical educational programs and the character necessary to further pursue and succeed in post-secondary and career opportunities in order to become productive citizens.

Madison Park Technical Vocational High School is seeking a visionary and dynamic individual to serve as an educational leader in our school. We are looking for a highly motivated, exceptional, results- oriented professional, who is committed to high standards of performance and achievement by both students and educators.

Responsibilities:
  1. Assists in the supervision of all staff and assumes the duties of the Principal/Headmaster when he/she is not on the premises.
  2. Implements the Code of Discipline and maintains the safety and security of the building and grounds.
  3. Supervises the arrival and departure of students; supervises the behavior of students in the common areas of the building and grounds.
  4. Seeks funding to enhance the cultural and academic programs at the school.
  5. Uses data to guide academic goals to assist the Principal/Headmaster in the preparation of Whole School Improvement document.
  6. Assists the Principal/Headmaster in his/her managerial duties including:
  7. Provides leadership and supervision for individual Small Learning Community
  8. Evaluation of teachers within Small Learning Community
  9. Supervises maintenance of the building and grounds
  10. Coordinates purchases and delivery of supplies and equipment
  11. Supervises maintenance of personnel and student records
  12. Prepares reports and statistics of school operations
  13. Assists in the preparation and maintaining of the master schedule within planning parameters established by Headmaster/Principal
  14. Implements the attendance policy
  15. Serves as liaison between the school and the transportation providers.
  16. Supervises substitute teachers, including arranging for coverage, ensuring that substitute folders are up to date and available for monitoring and evaluating performance.
  17. Assists the Headmaster/Principal in planning activities including coordinating curriculum, instruction, student's, volunteers and parent activities, and student support services.
  18. Engages the wider community to support school goals.
  19. Supports the cluster model of teaching, including the following: a. Develops a partnership between parents and cluster teachers b. Coordinates student support with guidance team as needed c. Facilitates communication among cluster members between cluster groups.
  20. Assumes other related duties as requested by the Principal/Headmaster.

Qualifications Required:
  1. Masters Degree in Education or related field.
  2. Three (3) years experience successful teaching experience.
  3. Massachusetts license for School Principal/Assistant Principal (grades specific).
  4. Demonstrated leadership qualities, interpersonal skills and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with students, teachers, administrators and parents.
  5. Ability to establish a multi-cultural atmosphere that enhances individual growth and promotes a positive self-image.
  6. Experience with budget preparation and implementation.
  7. Advanced technology skills
  8. Experience with full process involved in development and implementation of master schedule.
Preferred:
  1. Teaching experience in a K-12 educational setting.
  2. Experience as a school administrator.
