The College Preparatory Reading Specialist/Early College in High School (ECHS) teacher at University Prep at Pittsburgh Milliones 6-12 will be responsible for providing strategies for teaching and supporting students in the literacy skills needed to learn to read, read to learn, and comprehend. In addition, this position requires teaching high school students who are enrolled in ECHS courses for which they receive college credits.

Salary Schedule For Teachers Hired On Or After July 1, 2010 (starting at $46, 920 per year)

FLSA Status: Exempt

Qualifications:

Additionally, this position requires:

- Appropriate Pennsylvania Department of Education certification as Reading Specialist K-12;

- Master's degree in education with a minimum of fifteen (15) graduate
credits in reading required with three years secondary-level teaching experience.

- Evidence of a demonstrated track record of effective teaching.

- Past record of student learning and growth.

- Deep instructional expertise and knowledge of content area.

Residency Requirements: No Residency Requirement

Essential Job Functions:
1. Teaches students in 9th through 12th grades, both in and out of the Early College in
High School model.

2. Utilizes course outline from CCAC to develop rigorous course syllabus

3. Prepares and delivers lessons that align to the syllabus utilizing data to support the
District's vision for High Quality Instruction (Culturally Relevant Pedagogy, Rigor,
Student Engagement and Demonstration of Student Understanding).

4. Attends and actively participates in meetings with other teaching staff as well as
ECHS programmatic supports.

5. Maintains accurate records of student attendance and grades.

6. Administer targeted literacy interventions to small groups of students daily using
research-based strategies and resources.

7. Coordinate and facilitate the school's literacy intervention program.

8. Administer targeted literacy interventions to individual and small groups of students
daily using research-based strategies and resources.

9. Review student achievement and assist with placing students in appropriate reading
and writing intervention and support services.

10. Meet regularly with classroom teacher(s) to plan literacy instruction that correlates
with the individual student's needs or as requested by the classroom teacher.

11. Maintain and submit accurate and up-to-date management records of all students'
progress.
