The new Director of Special Education will be required to fulfill responsibilities and demonstrate competence in accordance with the ISBE Illinois Professional Standards for School Leaders. Specific qualifications include but are not limited to the following:

• Illinois Type 75 Administrative Certificate or eligibility for this certificate
• State Director of Special Education endorsement preferred
• three to five successful years' experience as an administrator of special education or related programs preferred
• Master's degree in special education or related field
• Doctorate preferred
• Strong knowledge of IDEA and Special Education case law
• expertise in and experience with: technology for learning, differentiation of core instruction, research based instruction, data driven decision making, student records, school improvement, common core, Response to Intervention, Danielson teacher evaluation, curriculum and instructional program development
• strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
• command of 21 st century education and the change process
• high level of professionalism and integrity
• strong commitment to personal growth
