General Responsibilities: Oversee the vertical curriculum for the Integrated Math/Science Program (IMS), grades 7 – 8; instruct the science portions of the IMS Program, grades 7 – 8 with potential to instruct Algebra 1 Integration.

Uses relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction.

Performs duties deemed necessary by the School Board and Superintendent for the efficient and successful operation of the school system.

Complies with all school laws, State Board of Education regulations, and all rules and regulations made by the School Board and Superintendent.

Attends all meetings called or approved by the Superintendent, Principal of Supervising Officer.

Learns the criteria for the evaluation of the Teacher, especially the areas of evaluation procedures, evaluation, steps and appeals.

Performs other duties as may be assigned by the Building Principal.

Lead Teacher Responsibilities

Writes components of the IMS curriculum to ensure vertical alignment in both math and science, grades 7 – 8.

Writes components of the IMS curriculum to ensure points of integration of math and science at each grade level 7 – 8, and to include engineering and/or project-based activities.

Supports co-teachers in effective and rigorous instruction at each grade level.

Incorporates use of innovative technologies such as but not limited to 3D printers, weather balloons, CAD, probe ware.

Encourages original research projects that may include authentic data collection, primary sources and presentation before authentic audiences.

Coordinates a selection process in conjunction with the Integrated Humanities (IH) personnel, and with the personnel at the feeder schools at grades 7 – 9.

Manages the IMS budget, and communicate projected budget requirements to the appropriate principal.

Plans, coordinates, and implements appropriate field experiences, which may include over-night travel.

Researches and guides preparation of materials for use in the IMS Program, to include teaching strategies, assessment and interpretation of assessment results.

Develop each individual student's love of and competence in math and science to their fullest potentials

Requisite Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Strong foundational knowledge in science, technology, engineering and math content.

Solid understanding of the Virginia Standards of Learning for Science (required) and Math (preferred).

An understanding of formative/summative assessment and the ability to assist administrators and teachers in analyzing and interpreting data and aligning curriculum as it pertains to setting improvement goals and targets.

Solid experience and understanding of best teaching practices related to science (required) and math (preferred) instruction.

Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with administrators and teachers to meet established goals.

Requisite Education and Experience

Must possess a valid Virginia Teaching License with endorsement in a high school or middle school science and willingness to become endorsed in Earth/Space Science and Algebra 1 as an add-on endorsement

Five years' experience in instruction preferred

Exposure to writing curriculum in a STEM field preferred

Master's Degree in a STEM field preferred

Physical Requirements:

Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects and controls. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to: a personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine. Some climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, or repetitive motions required.
