Instructional Coach - Elementary/Humanities/Culturally & Linguistically Sustaining Practices [PK-8]

The Joseph Lee K8 school is seeking a dynamic Instructional Coach who will provide professional support and technical assistance to teachers around the incorporation of culturally and linguistically sustaining practices across content throughout the school , with special focus in the humanities. They will focus on planning, data and resources cross curriculum as well as co-lead our school 's work in cultural proficiency. Our school is a newly expanded K8 with a focus on inclusive practices and we are seeking a collaborative team member to add to our leadership team. We are seeking candidates who posses urban teaching experiences, strong cultural proficiency knowledge and a collegial demeanor. Teachers of diverse backgrounds encouraged to apply.

REPORT TO: Principal

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Setting up effective classroom environments assisting in the planning of effective lessons conducting and debriefing demonstration classes co-teaching occasional classes in-class coaching, including the videotaping and debriefing of lessons assisting in the planning of school -based professional development activities, during and after school , including workshops, study groups, looking-at-student-work-and- data sessions, peer observations
  • Assisting in the proper implementation of BPS mid, and end-of-year assessments, as well as the analysis and response to results
  • Maintaining an up-to-date log of all activities in and out of classrooms, including activities, objectives, teachers worked with, outcomes, next steps, and timelines
  • Monitoring individual teacher's progress
  • Monitoring individual teacher's participation in professional development activities, and the consequent implementation of curriculum and instructional strategies meeting with principals, other school supervisors.
  • Participate in all professional development activities, including weekly meetings focused on implementation coordination, problem-solving, and coaches' professional development, and additional training opportunities provided to during the school year and, if possible, during the summer.
  • Share lead responsibility for selected elements of the literacy plan (e.g., assessment development, data gathering and analysis, professional development regarding selected instructional strategies). Perform additional responsibilities as requested by the Principal

QUALIFICATIONS - REQUIRED:
    1. Hold a Massachusetts Teaching License in Elementary (1-6), AND an SEI endorsement (or a ESL license).
    2. Experience and demonstrated expertise as a teacher of ELA/Literacy in elementary school or middle school setting
    3. Experience in culturally and linguistically sustaining practices

  • Demonstrated success working with teachers and administrators as a professional development provider, team leader , and/or facilitator

    1. Strong organizational skills

  • Current authorization to work in the United States - Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment


QUALIFICATIONS - PREFERRED:
  1. Hold a Massachusetts Teaching License in English, Social Studies, or Humanities at the middle school level
  2. Experience working in an urban setting
  3. Competence in more than one language (Spanish preferred)
  4. Special education license, experience and/or expertise
  5. BPS values linguistic diversity and believe that candidates who speak another language bring added value to the classroom, school , and district culture and diversity. BPS is particularly interested in candidates who are fluent in one of BPS' official languages:Spanish, Creole (Cape Verdean), Creole (Haitian), Chinese, Vietnamese, Portuguese, & Somali.
  6. In order to best serve all students, BPS prefers all core content teachers to be certified in their subject area and one or both of the following: Moderate Disabilities, English as a Second Language (at the appropriate grade level(s)).

Terms:
BTU, Group I, plus additional compensation equal to 5% of the individual's annual base salary.
