Part-time Medical Aide needed for the 2018-19 school year.

PURPOSE: The purpose of the Medical Aide is to assist students by providing for special health care needs in compliance with medical orders; working collaboratively with staff and families to advance special needs students' educational progress; documenting and maintaining appropriate medical records for assigned students.

MEDICAL AIDE QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
  • Possession of an Illinois Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) licenseCurrent CPR Certification and Red Cross First Aid certificationOne year experience preferredExcellent interpersonal and communication skillsStudent CenteredExperience working with children helpful, evidence of patience and flexibilityStrong computer skills for related assignmentsAbility to honor confidential informationAbility to work collaboratively with others with a minimum of supervision

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
The position includes, but is not limited to, the following list of representative duties:
  1. Assists in maintaining daily logs and medical records. Maintains records of administered procedures of a medical and non-medical nature provided for the purpose of complying with established record keeping requirements.Performs specialized physical health care procedures, including but not limited to gastrostomy and nasogastric feedings, toileting, catheterizations, tracheotomy care, suction, ostomy care, diaper changes, nebulizer treatments, glucagon administration, emergency care in an anaphylactic reaction, including administration of the epi­pen, and lifting and positioning physically disabled students.Initiates emergency procedures as needed, including, but not limited to, administering minor first aid and CPR to students and activating EMS or other follow­up care.Under supervision, provides follow­up for health problems identified during vision, hearing, scoliosis, diabetic, dental and nutritional screenings using standardized information.Monitors student(s) during assigned periods within a variety of school environments (e.g., lunch, bus stops, playground, classroom, field trips, public transportation, assemblies, kitchen) for the purpose of maintaining a safe and positive learning environment.Communicates with supervising instructional staff and professional support personnel for the purpose of assisting in evaluating progress and/or implementing IEP objectives.Works cooperatively with district nursing and administrative staff and consults with staff regarding health information as needed.

TERM of EMPLOYMENT:
This is a part-time (0.5 FTE) position during the school year (August 21, 2018-June 6, 2019).
