    Job Title: TOSA, Administrative Support- Spencer Grant Consultant

    Summary:
    Responsible for building professional knowledge and increasing student achievement in grades 9-11 by collaborating with building leadership, Instructional Coordinators (IC), Teacher Coaches (TC) and teacher leaders to develop their understanding of effective professional learning communities processes and assessment strategies and techniques. A SPENCER Grant Consultant has a clear understanding and may assist with the process(es) of writing 3D assessment tasks, developing formative assessment practices, facilitation of professional learning communities, student data analysis and tracking.

    Job Description/Essential Duties:
    • Responsible for increasing high school science student achievement by collaborating with science teachers, STEM staff, building and district administrators, Instructional Coordinators for math and science, and Teaching partners to develop their understanding of effective assessment development and Professional Learning Community (PLC) instructional techniques. Responsible for assisting the ASPIRE Grant team and APS STEM Instructional Coordinators in monitoring and evaluating assessment and (PLC) practices developed for science grades 9-11.
    • Develop a site based PLC teacher leader at each participating school and grade level. The Consultant will develop the understandings of effective assessment and PLC facilitation practices and techniques through one-on-one consultation and ongoing teacher leader professional development.
    • Support the science teacher leader with building grade level best practices for 3D science assessment and instruction through co-planning/teaching, developing a demonstration classroom/PLC teams, planning and facilitating professional development and collaborating with building leadership and district personnel.
    • Support professional learning communities in collecting and analyzing student data as part of longitudinal tracking.
    • Support teachers in setting goals and exploring student thinking around disciplinary core ideas and Cross Cutting concepts. Design and revise formative assessment tasks.
    • Support data collection from students in classes. Coach and facilitate reflective cycles around formative assessments about what students know and are able to do to inform instruction.
    • Remain familiar with district initiatives and coordinate the goals of the district and participating schools in conjunction with the vision of the grant. Act as the weekly external facilitator of the Professional Learning Community.
    • Develop teacher understanding of appropriate second language instruction through professional development, one-on-one consultation, curriculum development, planning, assessment and evaluation of English language learners. This includes planning and facilitating ongoing professional development for Culturally Linguistically Diverse Education (CLDE) staff, new teachers, regular education teachers and paraprofessionals.
    • Collaborate with building leadership and staff to develop knowledge about the impact of CLDE learners on building programs, compliance, program implementation, staffing, and review of student programs.
    • Assist and review all assessment tasks, PLC structures and tools.
    • Develop a website that would allow the work to be shared district wide.
    • Collect and analyze data on the 3D formative assessment tasks developed by the ASPIRE research team. Collect and maintain panel data on different student cohorts. Track students across schools and grades. Access and identify data. Oversee the creation of the APSIRED created student ID and secure data files
    • Provide integrated and comprehensive science curriculum, assessment and instruction support to participating schools by collaborating with IC, TP, District support staff and the ASPIRE Research Team to develop science formative assessment demonstration classrooms or demonstration videos and by co-planning and co-facilitating building and district professional development. Contribute to curriculum and assessment design support. Work with the Instructional Coordinators for Science and Math around curriculum and assessment. Coordinate district level curriculum, instruction and assessments.
    • Attend weekly CU Boulder Research team meetings.
    • Maintain professional skills and knowledge of science issues and techniques by attending district meetings, conferences, researching, networking, maintaining subscriptions, reading and through continuing education.
    • Support IC, teacher leaders and classroom teachers' knowledge of effective science instruction and assessment practices that support all students and teachers to meet the expectations of the new state standards.

    Education, Licensure and Experience:
    • Bachelor’s degree in secondary science education
    • Master’s preferred
    • Minimum of 3 years of teaching experience
    • 5 years of experience in secondary education preferred
    • Hold a Colorado teaching license
