POSITION SUMMARY:

The Program Coordinator - Dual Language Spanish Immersion is responsible for the management and administration of the Dual Language Spanish Immersion program within their school.

Brief Description:

This is a PGCEA, Table B, 11-Month position.

Salary Range: 52,560 - $114,201

Detailed Description:

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  • Coordinating the Dual Language Spanish Immersion Program in conjunction with the appropriate school and central office staff;
  • Providing leadership, in concert with the principal, for the implementation and management of the Dual Language Spanish Immersion policies and procedures and curriculum within the school;
  • Working with central office personnel to provide school Dual Language Spanish Immersion teachers with curriculum documents and resources for the Spanish program;
  • Providing direct support to Spanish classroom teachers in the area of curriculum, instruction, and assessment management;
  • Monitoring and assessing student achievement in class, as well as on internal and external Spanish examinations;
  • Using data to make recommendations for improving the program and designing and monitoring programs for intervention and support needs;
  • Providing direct support to all Spanish classroom teachers in the area of curriculum, instruction, and classroom management;
  • Informing staff and teachers on professional development opportunities during the entire school year and summer;
  • Providing in-house professional development to Spanish staff;
  • Assisting in counseling students and making recommendations for placement from Spanish identified students;
  • Planning and implementing special events for students that will encourage, guide, and educate them on the different choices available in the areas of Spanish;
  • Engaging in professional activities, which contribute to leadership development;
  • Communicating effectively with students, staff, administrative and supervisory personnel, parents and community on the Spanish mission for the school and serve as a liaison between the Dual Language Spanish Program and other programs within the school;
  • Organizing and providing parent literacy nights for Math and Reading in Spanish;
  • Attending monthly SPMT meetings for school planning;
  • Attend the Task Force Meetings with the county Immersion Office during the year; and
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


  • Job Requirements:

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
  • Minimum of five years of successful teaching experience with an overall score of effective or better;
  • Knowledge of the Spanish philosophy and experience working and/or teaching within an authorized Spanish program;
  • Formal training in best practices in gifted education, including meeting the social, emotion, and intellectual needs of gifted students.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate complex operations and activities in multiple settings;
  • Demonstrated leadership and administrative competency;
  • Ability to organize and prioritize the many aspects of the position;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships;
  • Excellent oral, written, and oral interpersonal skills; and
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with Microsoft word, excel, and power point.

  • EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

    Bachelor's degree or Master Equivalent, preferably in Elementary Education; MD Advance Certificate preferred.

    CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

    Holds or is eligible for a Professional Certificate appropriate to area of assignment issued by the Maryland State Department of Education.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    No direct supervisory responsibilities.
