SUMMARY: Responsible for the delivery of specified course content in the absence of the classroom teacher. Responsible for providing a safe educational atmosphere where students have the opportunity to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, and psychological growth. The substitute's workday corresponds with the teacher's workday. Substitute teachers are employed on a day to day basis and there is no contractual agreement for employment between a substitute and the School Board beyond the day's assignment for which they work.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Perform teaching related duties required by the site including covering another class during an absent teacher's planning period, lunchroom duty, hall duty, bus duty and /or playground duty.

Follow defined lesson plans set forth by classroom teacher.

Orient students to their coursework and communicate course requirements.

Employ asynchronous and synchronous tools to supplement course content.

Create and deliver live and recorded instructional sessions.

Provide a safe learning environment and deploy proper classroom management strategies.

May be required to grade student work, enter grades into an online gradebook, and provide course grade.

Communicate with parents as needed.

Collaborate with other instructional staff.

Administer school-wide assessments including CSAP, ACT, and Acuity if necessary.

Conduct student/parent/teacher conferences if needed.

Perform other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE Previous teaching experience preferred.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING Valid Colorado teaching license or sub authorization. If accepting a long term substitute assignment over 19 days, candidate must be able to show content proficiency in the content area in which they are teaching.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, & EQUIPMENT Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to effectively and efficiently use technology and information literacy in instruction. Willingness to learn new technology. Must be flexible and have capacity for dealing with ambiguity. Willingness to be a contributing member of Jeffco Public Schools substitute pool.

A successful external applicant will be issued a probationary contract. A successful internal applicant that currently holds a probationary or non-probationary contract with Jeffco Public Schools will maintain that contract status.

A successful internal applicant currently holding a Jeffco probationary contract will be issued a one year, temporary contract.
