Teacher - Instrumental Music - TEMPORARY or ONGOING - at 5 Elementary Schools

*If the successful candidate is a current Jeffco non-probationary or probationary teacher, the position will be ongoing and candidate will maintain their contract; If the successful candidate is a current Jeffco Temporary teacher OR an external candidate, the position will be temporary and candidate will be issued a Temporary contract .

Preference will be given to candidates demonstrating competencies that meet and exceed those listed on this job description:


• Thorough knowledge and experience in teaching a wide variety of musical instruments, including woodwinds, brass, strings and percussion.

• Experience in recruiting techniques and demonstrated ability in building a strong instrumental program.

• Ability to be flexible with the scheduling of classes, schools, and other areas that will need to be coordinated among multiple parties.

• Knowledge of the music standards and supporting materials.

• Ability to provide a structured classroom environment with a defined behavior management system and discipline procedure.

• Ability to motivate and to reach children with varying abilities.

• Ability to assess and evaluate student's musical achievement through a variety of strategies.

• Commitment to providing students with a variety of high-level performance opportunities.

• Enthusiasm for working with students and staff.

• Excellent interpersonal and communicative skills for working with staff, students, and parents.

• Ability to delineate parent communication techniques and objectives.

• Ability to coordinate and articulate with middle and high schools regarding program expectations.

• Willingness to participate in All-County and Area Band and Orchestra programs.

• Excellent skills in the areas of time management, planning, scheduling, and organizational skills.

Demonstrate willingness to work as a school team member, e.g. musical, pep band, madrigals, and other school -wide events

QUALIFICATIONS: Must hold a valid Colorado teaching license or authorization. Must meet content-area qualifications, which could include the appropriate license endorsement, degree in the content area, Colorado State Board of Education-approved content exam, or 36 credit hours as determined by the district.

EXPERIENCE: Successful experience in directing an elementary instrumental music program. Previous successful school teaching experience in Concert Band, Jazz Band, Orchestra ensembles, Percussion and Marching Band.
