DEFINITION : Under the leadership and guidance of Field Representative, install, repair, service, program and test video camera and access control systems in schools, offices, and other facilities. Perform specialized skilled electrical and technological duties pertaining to video cameras and access control systems. May lead and coordinate the work of contractors and others. Perform other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES :

Install, repair, service, program, and test video camera, access control, and related components in school buildings, offices, portables, and modular classrooms. May lead and guide less experienced employees.

Maintain video camera and access control systems to include testing and inspection programs and schedules.

Diagnose video camera and access control system malfunctions. Respond to malfunctions and perform repair work.

Meet with school administrators, staff, and others regarding video camera and access control systems and related matters. Meet with subcontractors on projects.

Respond to emergency incidents such as those resulting from fire damage, storm damage, and vandalism.

Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

Education, Training and Experience :
In possession of a high school diploma or equivalent plus four years of experience in installation, repair, programming, and maintenance work involving video camera and access control systems.

Note: Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience that provide the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively perform the duties of the position may be considered.

Experience with Analog and IP cameras (PTZ GE legend IP Dome cameras and GE Ultraview Fixed Dome cameras), Interlogix TruVision NVRs and TruVision Navigator Software, and the Facility Commander (CASI) Access Control System including installation, troubleshooting, repair and programming preferred.

Licenses and Certificates :
Possession of a valid class C Maryland driver's license or an equivalent is required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :
Has the knowledge of video camera, access control, and associated systems. Has the knowledge of the principles and practices of the installation, repair, maintenance, and programming of video camera and access control equipment and associated systems. Has the knowledge of the tools, equipment, and materials used in video camera and access control, programming, electrical repair, maintenance, and installation. Has the knowledge of electrical and fire codes. Has the knowledge of safety standards and procedures.

Skill in the installation, maintenance, programming, and repair of video camera equipment, access control equipment, and electrically operated equipment. Has the skill in installing and repairing electrical circuitry and electrical components. Has the skill in reading and interpreting electrical codes, blueprints, plans, and schematics. Has the skill in diagnosing and resolving problems with video cameras and access control systems. Has the skill in managing projects. Has the skill in supervising in-house staff and contractors, and communicating effectively. Skill in the use of database, spreadsheet, and word processing software is preferred.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS :
The work of this class entails the performance of heavy physical labor including frequent walking and standing, and the operation of tools and equipment. Also requires occasional lifting and carrying objects of moderate to heavy weight and climbing ladders. Duties require travel to sites throughout Baltimore County.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT :
Persons appointed to this class are designated as essential personnel and as such may be required to work during emergency events, are subject to call to duty, and may be required to work beyond their normally scheduled hours with little or no advance notice.

Position is subject to working second shift.

FLSA : Non-exempt

SALARY: Grade 11 on the AFSCME payscale $23.29 - $28.34/hour

Pre-Employment Requirements:
  • All persons employed by the Baltimore County Public Schools, regular and temporary, are required to be fingerprinted and have a criminal background investigation (State of Maryland, Senate Bill 315, effective October 1, 1986) completed. The fee charged for fingerprinting is $79.75.
  • An identification card will be issued which must be shown prior to employment.
  • Anyone offered employment is required to provide proper identification and documentation of eligibility for employment in the US.
  • If you have military experience you will be asked to provide a copy of DD214.
  • Official transcripts for all higher education must be received prior to contract signing.
  • Some positions will require employees to undergo a physical examination and/or drug testing.
