JOB TITLE : Shop Supervisor, Food Service Warehouse

REPORTS TO : Supervisor, Warehouse Operations

DEFINITION : Supervises employees assigned to handle and deliver food and supplies to schools that are needed to operate the Child Nutrition Program. Supervises the receipt and storage of food and supplies. Oversees employee scheduling and training.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES :
  • Supervises warehouse operation including activities of truck drivers, loading and unloading of deliveries, and ensuring accuracy of truck orders. Plans, schedules, and reviews the work of warehouse drivers and material handlers.
  • Plans, directs, organizes, and evaluates the work assignments of assigned personnel. Ensures compliance with safety rules and regulations in the warehouse.
  • Evaluates the performance of assigned staff.
  • Responsible for receipt and storage of frozen and dry goods.
  • Plans, schedules, and coordinates delivery schedules and assignments.
  • Maintains equipment transfer requests from facilities and supplies supervisor. Schedules transfer and pick-up of equipment. Arranges with outside vendors for the transfer of items as needed. Coordinates with warehouse operations supervisor for pick-up of goods at contracted warehouse locations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.?


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

Education, Training and Experience :
  • Possession of an associate's degree or an equivalent.
  • Four years of physical distribution, warehousing, and/or inventory experience.
  • Supervisory experience is preferred.
Note : Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience that provide the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively perform the duties of the position may be considered.

Licenses and Certificates :
  • Possession of a valid class C Maryland driver's license or an equivalent is required.
  • Possession of a valid Maryland CDL is required.
  • Certified Food Service Manager - Level 1 certification preferred.

Required license(s) must be maintained throughout employment in this position or any other positions requiring the license.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :
  • Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of receiving, storing, and issuing food and supplies.
  • Thorough knowledge of inventory maintenance and control.
  • Knowledge of material handling equipment.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and guidelines.
  • Skill in the maintenance of inventory.
  • Skill in the preparation of reports and the maintenance of records relating to distribution activities.
  • Skill in the operation of material handling equipment.
  • Skill in training others in the safe care and operation of material handling equipment.
  • Ability to supervise and coordinate the operations of a distribution facility.
  • Ability to supervise material handlers.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to appropriately maintain confidential information.
  • Ability to safely operate a cube van, panel van, forklift, and pallet mover.
  • Ability to operate a PC and required software.
  • Ability to work under deadline pressures and with frequent interruptions.


PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS :
The work of this class is performed in a warehouse and office environment and involves frequent walking and standing, working at heights, lifting and carrying of objects of moderate to heavy weight (up to 60 pounds), and the use of coordinative and manipulative skills in the operation of material handling equipment. Work requires exposure to a warehouse and shop environments that include exposure to dust, dirt, chemicals, machinery, and equipment. May require work in freezers and refrigerated storage units. May require travel throughout Baltimore County.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT :
Persons appointed to this classification are designated as Essential-As-Needed Personnel and are required to work when schools and/or offices are closed during adverse weather conditions or any other emergency when contacted and directed to do so.

Persons of this class may be required to work beyond their normally scheduled hours with little or no advanced notice.

Persons holding a commercial driver's license (CDL) are subject to alcohol and drug testing in accordance with applicable state and federal regulations and Board of Education policy.

Employees must successfully completed a training program in the operation of powered industrial lift trucks and must remain competent to operate such equipment safely throughout their employment.

Employees must obtain certification and remain qualified to serve as an instructor in the BCPS powered industrial lift trucks operation and safety training program.

FLSA : Exempt

SALARY : Grade 01 on the BCPS 12 Month OPE scale $51,037 - $78,903 annually.

This class specification defines the types of duties and level of difficulty of work required of positions in this title. It shall not be held to exclude duties not mentioned nor limit the right of management to assign work to employees.

Pre-Employment Requirements:
  • All persons employed by the Baltimore County Public Schools, regular and temporary, are required to be fingerprinted and have a criminal background investigation (State of Maryland, Senate Bill 315, effective October 1, 1986) completed. The fee charged for fingerprinting is $79.75. An identification card will be issued which must be shown prior to employment.
  • Anyone offered employment is required to provide proper identification and documentation of eligibility for employment in the US.
  • If you have military experience you will be asked to provide a copy of DD214.
  • Official transcripts for all higher education must be received prior to contract signing.
  • Some positions will require employees to undergo a physical examination and/or drug testing.
  • All newly hired personnel must attend a Badges and Benefits session.
  • Additional job verification will be required for salary credit.
