SUMMARY: Provide leadership for English as a Second Language (ESL) Program at the school by providing support for classroom teachers and direct instruction.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Participate in building level professional development, and staff meetings. Attend professional development provided by the ESL/Dual Language department.

Work collaboratively with ESL Resource Teacher, instructional coach, and school and district staff to monitor student progress and make appropriate instructional decisions.

Collaboratively plan and facilitate professional development for school staff.

Co-plan/co-teach in the areas of oral language, reading, writing and standards-based content.

Collaboratively administer yearly ESL assessments and update and maintain ESL files.

Collaborate with building staff in order to maintain communication with the community as needed.

Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS: Current Colorado teaching license with English as a Second Language or Linguistically Diverse Endorsement.

EXPERIENCE: Minimum 3 years of elementary experience. Licensed classroom teaching experience preferred. Experience with standards-based curriculum and instruction. Instructional experience required. Experience working in and helping lead schools and communities with English Language Learner (ELL) student population. Experienced in integrating technology into the classroom as an instructional tool and for personal productivity. Documented successful classroom experience working with K-6 ELLs.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, & EQUIPMENT: Knowledge of reading/writing process. Knowledge of sheltered instruction techniques. Knowledge of and commitment to English Language Development standards, language acquisition theory, best-practices and research-based instructional strategies in literacy, co-planning and co-teaching, data driven instruction, and differentiation strategies. Ability to demonstrate a belief that all children can learn through differentiated core instruction. Demonstrated ability to coach teachers and support them in effectively planning ESL strategies in the general education classroom. Ability to collaborate with classified staff, instructional coaches, administrators, and district ESL resource teacher. Knowledge of assessment linked to instruction. Demonstrated commitment to teamwork in establishing and meeting student achievement goals, school goals, and professional development goals through team planning and active participation in professional development opportunities. Demonstrated knowledge of cultural diversity within the home/school community lens.
