SUMMARY OF ASSIGNMENTS:

Assist and support school staff in attaining educational goals for students.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Lead school personnel in the assessment of student problems related to the learning process and/or school adjustment.
  2. Conduct evaluations and serve as assessment coordinator and carry out educational diagnostic assessments on individual students with disabilities. Write individual and summary reports of diagnostic assessments.
  3. Identify those students with disabilities who meet state and federal education guidelines for special education services for students with disabilities as defined by WAC 392-172A and properly identified according to district procedures.
  4. Make specific recommendations to parents and school staff relating to improvements in student performance and adjustment.
  5. Interpret assessment findings to parents and school staff.
  6. Maintain liaison with agencies and nonschool professionals involved with students on an assigned basis.
  7. Keep accurate records and prepare reports and summaries as required.
  8. Supervise school psychologist interns and practicum students on an assigned basis.
  9. Assist staff development and implementation of behavioral and/or academic intervention plans for individual students.
  10. Provide consultation to staff related to the application of psychological principles and best educational practices; i.e., develop appropriate practices, curriculum based assessment, social skills curriculum, and collaborative integrated services.
  11. Counsel parents and students in individual and group settings.
  12. Carry out professional job assignments as determined by appropriate coordinator or supervisor of special education.
  13. Serve as a cooperative member of district multi-disciplinary team, assisting in the assessment for determination of eligibility, and the development of instructional and behavioral goals that support children with autism or autistic like characteristics.
  14. Review IEPs for content and compliance with State and Federal requirements.
  15. Provide training, assistance and consultation to conduct Functional Behavioral Analysis (FBA) individually or as a team member to identify the function of the student's behavior and to develop effective positive behavior supports and interventions (BIP). Collect and analyze data to determine the effectiveness of the intervention and modify when appropriate.
  16. Understand and apply the concepts of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and the application of Discrete Trial Training (DTT) as the basis for instructional strategies used in the classroom and school environment.
  17. Maintain appropriate written records and reports for each child served and/or assessed.
  18. Participate in continuing education to ensure continued professional growth and awareness.
  19. Maintain professional knowledge and expertise; attend, participate and implement district level program requirements of IDEA, NCLD, and Statewide Assessment requirements.
  20. Perform other job-related duties as requested from supervisor.


QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Holds certification or is eligible for ESA certification in school psychology in the state of Washington.
  2. A master's degree from an accredited institution in school psychology.
  3. Demonstrated understanding of the essential requirements within P.L. 101-476 and its application to the provision of appropriate services for disabled students.
  4. Ability to work cooperatively with a diverse group of parents, teachers, administrators, and colleagues in providing direct and indirect services to students with disabilities in a confidential manner.
  5. Relates positively to youth and adults of varying socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.
  6. Prefer previous successful experience as a school psychologist or in a closely related field within a public school setting.
  7. Ability to express thoughts concisely and effectively.
  8. Demonstrates ability to communicate clearly in written or oral form.
  9. Flexible in learning new concepts, cooperates with others, and adapts to a variety of assignments and conditions.
  10. Enthusiastic and displays an overall optimism in motivating toward teaching and student learning.
  11. Assesses needs of students, prescribes and implements effective lessons to meet those needs through the use of appropriate and current instructional strategies based on best practices.
  12. Conducts self in a professional manner through interactions with students and adults, high expectations for student performance, is compassionate but firm when modeling appropriate behavior, and selects appropriate attire.
  13. Relates positively to students and adults from varying socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic background, learning styles, and various disabilities.
  14. Maintains a high level of professional expertise and emerging research related to this position.
  15. Hold and maintain state license.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

WORK YEAR: Certificated employees are contracted for a 180-day work year for a full year contract. BENEFITS - Fringe benefits for employees .5 or greater FTE include medical, dental, vision, basic life insurance, and long-term disability coverage are provided for employees who work at least half-time or more in a regular position. In addition, employees have access to a variety of optional benefits through payroll deduction. SITE GOVERNANCE - Completion of transfer, reassignment to another location, change of position, promotion, or new hire is contingent upon the individual's agreement to sign the charter and any variances which may exist at the site and agreement to work within the framework of any covenant and principles of learning as determined by the site.
