Title: Assistant Superintendent, Innovative Programs

Position Summary:

The Assistant Superintendent of Innovative Programs is responsible for providing leadership and direction for the development/design, planning, implementation, evaluation, and support of the District's portfolio of non-traditional instructional programs. The incumbent will ensure the effective execution and sustainable operation of these non-traditional programs by developing and managing essential relationships with the necessary internal departments/schools and with those desired external partners and stakeholders.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assists with the development of strategic goals/objectives related to the implementation, and sustainable operation of the District's non-traditional educational options (STEM centers, magnet, IB, etc.)Works as project manager with Capital Programs, Academics, Communications, and other related departments when modifying and/or in the execution of a new systemic instructional optionWorks with Communications, but serves as primary for messaging to the stakeholders of Fulton County Schools the essential information about curriculum alignment, resource needs, and expected student growth outcomes for the various non-traditional programs offeredCoordinates and maintains a consistent student recruitment and common application process for non-traditional educational options (STEM centers, magnet, IB, etc.)Coordinates and/or ensures school/District staff has access to professional learning opportunities that build instructional capacity in relevant instructional programsCultivates and maintains those business and post-secondary partnerships that add value to non-traditional programs and student experiences (e.g., student mentorship/internships)Meets regularly with key personnel throughout the District to ensure that proper information flows through leadership, including establishing goals, objectives and long-range plansCoordinates with the Academic Leadership Team and the District's curriculum leaders/experts to ensure the effective integration of required curriculum standards and project-based learning approaches (i.e. STEM, design thinking)Advocates changes that support employee and leader awareness of and flexibility for non-traditional programs/schools across the DistrictCollaborates with peers to develop a consistent approach for cultivating the successful leadership of all District non-traditional programsEnsures compliance with state and federal grant programs and other applicable mandatesDevelops systemic plans to implement sustainable educational options including creating multi-year execution schedules, building accountability systems, and prioritizing available budgetary and human capital resourcesPerforms other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator

Education and Experience:
Education:
  • Master's Degree in Education, Business, Public Administration, or related field required


Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of progressively responsible experience in curriculum designing, instructional delivering and assessment or related field requiredMinimum 2 years of experience working in an educational leadership position, preferably at the District level

Certification:
  • Must hold or be eligible for a provisional or clear renewable Leadership Certificate

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Knowledge and understanding of the components required for effective curriculum and instruction delivery, including the integration of technology and project-based learning applications (i.e. STEM, STEAM, Design Thinking)Strong decision-making ability, budget experience, proven performance and resource management skillsAbility to manage departmental budget and ensure expenditures are within approved budget and in conformance with District fiscal proceduresAbility to work and communicate with various external District stakeholders, and build successful partnershipsAbility to advocate for non-traditional government and private grant fundsDemonstrate ability to implement the District's strategic planAbility to relate to a wide variety of people and to observe, listen and provide leadership that fosters and supports a high-functioning work environmentWorking knowledge of good management practices including financial accounting and reporting, human resources, planning and implementation, and information technologiesExcellent communication skills both written and verbalProficient in Microsoft Office

Salary Information:
Salary Range for 2018-2019
  • $111,404 - $131,480


Step placement credit may be granted for up to a maximum of 8 years (Step 9) of prior verifiable experience. Salary placement with Fulton County Schools is non-negotiable. Actual salary placement will be based on Fulton County Board of Education experience calculations from the Non-Teaching Salary Schedule B-235, Executive Scale, Step 1 - Step 9.
