QU AL IF IC AT I ONS :

Candidates must be New Yo rk State or Buffalo certifi e d Art. It is required that candidates must attach a PDF or a screen shot of their certifications. Priority in the selection of teachers will be given to qualified pe r m anent/ te n u red/probationar y /te m porary B u ffalo Public School teachers in order of summer school seniority. Summer school seniority is defined as previous years of BPS summer employment in a classroom setting. Only current and active BPS employees earn summer school seniority. Experience infusing Puerto Rican culture into the arts preferred. Bilingual candidates with experience teaching multilingual learners preferred.

ESSENT IA L DU T IES:
• Plan, prepare and deliver instructional activit i es that facilitate active learning experiences for students who have recently arrived from Puerto Rico.

• Develop lesson plans.

• Establish and communica t e clear objec t ives for all learning activities.

• Prepare cl a ss r oom for cla s s activities.

• Provide a variety of learning m ater i als and resources for use in educational activities.
• Identi f y and utilize different instructional resources and m ethods to support the learning needs of students at var y ing levels of progress.

• Instruct and m onitor students in the use of learning materials and equip m ent.

• Provide for th e care and p r otection of school proper t y.

• Use relevant technolo g y to support i n str u ction.

• Observe and evaluate student performance and develop m ent.

• Assign and grade cla s s wo rk , ho m ework, tests, and as s ign m ents a s a ppropriate.

• Provide app r opriate feedback on stude n t work.

• Monitor and encourage individual student progress.

• Provide guid a n ce to studen t s which will pro m ote educational develop m ent.

• Maintain ac c urate and co m pl ete recor d s of student progress and development.

• Update reco rd s accurately and co m p let e ly as required by laws and district policies.

• Prepare required reports on students and activities.
• Manage student behavior a nd m aintain discipline by establishing classro o m rules and procedures and enforcing classro o m , school, and dis t rict rules and procedures.

• Regularly display student products.

• Cooperate with and partic i p ate in the p l anning, i m ple m entation, and evaluation of the total school program.

• Foster and maintain effect iv e communi c ation with parents and/or guardians
• Work collaboratively with a professional consultant artist in classroom planning and instruction
• Perform other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the Princip a l or other appropriate ad m i nistrator .

PLEASE NOTE:

Two paid Teacher Orientat i on Sessions, at the hourly rate, will be scheduled in June 2018. Each session will last 2 hours and will be held after school. Chosen candidates are e n couraged to at t end. Also, paid teacher preparation and close-out ses s ions are scheduled for July 6, 2018 and August 6, 2018 (3.5 h o ur sessions ). Teachers will also receive a full day professional development opportunity during the last week in June. Accepting an assignment to this program includes a commitment to attend the compensated training associated with the program.

IMPO R TA N T NO T ICE:

Please r eview the dates ca r efully. For the benefit of the students and continuity of the prog r am, teachers are expected to ser v e the full term of the program.

APPOINT M ENT:

Appoint m ent will be made by the Board of Education upon the recommendation of the Super i ntendent fol l owing ass e s s ment of ENL and/or Bilingual teaching experience, seniority, training, credentials, certifi c at i ons and evaluation of service. Interviews s h all be scheduled where appropriate.

SALARY: 1/200th - Teacher rate ba se d on BTF contract.
