Custom Job Purpose:
This position exists to perform responsible reporting of workers' compensation and risk management administration. This position gathers information, reviews claims, communicates and coordinates
information to third-party administrators (TPA), payroll departments, and legal representatives. Works to
proactively return eligible employees to work in a timely manner.
Essential Functions of this Job
* Prepares and delivers all information to sites referencing risk management issues.
* Maintains tracking system of all workers' compensation claimants.
* Maintains a proactive return to work strategy.
* Coordinates with management at work locations to actively return injured employees to work with accommodations.
* Expedites all legal requests, subpoenas, and correspondence.
* Advises manager or director of all risk management issues through memos, reports, and correspondence.
* Is responsible for accurately preparing wage statements.
* Attends depositions on behalf of the District. * Ensures that all employee records and risk management issues are kept confidential and secured.
* Resolves, in a timely fashion, employee questions and concerns referencing workers' compensation issues.
* Delivers presentations concerning workers' compensation and risk management guidelines to District
employees. * Responds to information requests from third party administrator (TPA) to ensure timely payment of
indemnity benefits and settlement of claims.
* Updates Payroll personnel on employee workers' compensation wage status.
* Ensures time quotas are accurate as they relate to In Line of Duty Days.

* Ensures all insurance refund checks are deposited and recorded according to Finance Department
guidelines.
* Creates check requests for payment to outside vendors related to claims administration.
* Communicates and coordinates employee information between TPA and the district's assigned medical
care provider.
* Attends meetings involving case settlement/defense strategy with manager and legal counsel.
* Assists in the preparation of all required reports of the District's risk management program.
* Assists in obtaining documents and information related to claims and/or lawsuits involving the District's
risk management program.
* Works closely with the RN Nurse Case Manager from the TPA regarding claims management.
* Serves as a backup to management at legal proceedings including workers' compensation and liability
mediation hearings.
* Updates website information on risk management, provides site consultations to sites as needed, and
provides training for all site risk management coordinators.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Considerable knowledge of the workers' compensation and risk management guidelines. Proficient in using
multiple computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access. Ability to analyze facts and to
exercise judgment in arriving at valid conclusions. Ability to understand and interpret complex oral and
written instructions. Ability to utilize Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems. Ability to express ideas
clearly and concisely, orally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working
relationships with subordinates and with other departments. Bilingual/biliterate preferred.
Education, Experience and/or Certification/License Requirements
Graduation from an accredited high school or satisfactory completion of the General Education Development
(GED) required. Associate's degree or higher is preferred. Minimum of four years of experience in
insurance, risk management, clerical and/or secretarial capacity; or an equivalent combination of training
and experience. All Lines Adjuster License required. An appointee who does not possess the required
license will be given six months from the date of appointment to obtain the All Lines Adjuster License.

Requires sitting and some standing, walking and moving about to coordinate work. Requires face-to-face
discussions and contact with individuals and/or teams. Requires the use of alternative communication
systems, such as electronic mail, telephones and computers. Requires coordination of work tasks to establish
priorities, set goals and meet deadlines. Requires work with both internal and external contacts, and with the
public.
Requires working indoors in environmentally controlled conditions. Requires sitting, standing, and the
ability to lift, carry, move and/or position objects frequently weighing up to 20 pounds, and infrequently
weighing more than 20 pounds. May occasionally require travel to schools and work locations within the
District.
