Organization Description: The mission of Josiah Quincy Orchestra Program (JQOP) is to ensure the long-term musical and social success of all students, and to positively impact them and their families through quality education and performance. All programming takes place at Josiah Quincy Elementary School in Boston. In the 2018-19 school year, JQOP will serve 200 students in six ensembles before school, including leadership training for advanced students and a Middle School Chamber Music program. The program will also serve 50 students as part of the Beethoven Ensemble for Students with Special Needs.

Position Description: The Arts Program Coordinator will oversee operations of Josiah Quincy Orchestra Program, including but not limited to raising funds, hiring staff, and managing the program budget. This includes being present at the program every weekday from 7:30-9:30am. In addition, the Arts Program Coordinator will coordinate the JQES Arts team and visiting guest artists to benefit all students, and serve as an intermediary between the orchestra program and school staff. The Arts Program Coordinator will report to Principal Soo Hoo and the Board of Directors.

Responsibilities
  • Sit on the JQES Arts & Events Committee to help coordinate school shows and performances
  • Facilitate communication between arts partners and JQES faculty & administration, and coordinate arts-focused guest performances and workshops for the JQES student body along with the incorporation of JQOP ensembles and other extracurricular arts programs with events at JQES.
  • Develop and maintain the annual arts budget, including regular monitoring and quarterly reporting to the board.
  • Ensure that all paperwork, legal documents, MOU's with various partners, and bank files, are signed and kept up-to-date, electronically and in print.
  • Serve as JQOP's primary spokesperson to constituents, the media, and the general public. Oversee marketing and public relations efforts to increase JQOP's visibility in the Boston community.
  • Report to, and work closely with, the Board of Directors in policy decisions and fundraising, as well as the development of short-term goals and a long-term strategic plan. Attend all board meetings.
  • collaborate with JQOP teachers and staff. This may include supporting to organize staff meetings and training sessions, and supporting teachers by initiating clear policies, expectations, and resources in regard to the music program
  • Research and write grants, and completing all grant reporting requirements.
  • Reach out to individuals and representatives of local companies to increase individual and corporate giving.
  • Organize annual end-of-year campaign, and assist the board with planning various fundraising events.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree preferred; Commitment to all aspects of JQOP and El Sistema's philosophy of social change through music education
  • 2+ years of experience with fundraising; developing positive relationships with constituents and supporters
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively supervise staff and volunteers
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, and a high comfort level meeting/speaking with individuals face-to-face or at social functions and events.
  • Ability to set priorities, manage schedules, meet deadlines, and track the progress of multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining a high-quality of work and strong attention to detail.
  • City of Boston residency required.

NOTE: School-based managerial employees will work 223 days between July 1st and June 30th each year. The 223 day work-year will include the 180 days in which school is in session, and the additional days will be determined by the employee and the principal or headmaster of the school. This position subject to the City of Boston residency requirement as well as U.S. citizenship.

School-based managerial employees are not eligible for vacation time or compensatory time. In the event of school cancellation due to snow or inclement weather, school-based managerial employees need not report to work.
