SUMMARY: Grant funded position responsible for improving the system of interventions for at-risk students in High School. Position will facilitate access to services specifically related to credit recovery, credit acceleration, and innovative access to college and career readiness. Must have a strong understanding of school and community supports and resources. Responsible for creating and monitoring plans for student success with students, parents, agency partners, and the school or program the student attends. Will facilitate information sharing between schools, departments and partner agencies. Position will facilitate and encourage programming focused on good decision making, resiliency, increasing social emotional strengths, and earning the necessary credits to graduate.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Coordinator for the TAG program:

  • Responsible for monitoring attendance for TAG students and following up with students who don't attend.
  • Manage schedule changes and requests
  • Create, teach and support students in the internship course each semester.
  • Help to arrange guest speakers, college, and work-site visits throughout the year
  • Track cohort matriculation
  • Parent outreach/liaison
  • Progress monitor TAG students and collaborate with counselor around the MTSS processes.
  • Coordinate student work sessions


Assist in creating processes to identify students who are at-risk of not graduating by transcript credit.

Assist school in enhancing intervention frameworks.
Work with building team to develop secondary pathways that lead to successful graduation.
Work with community agency partners to develop and improve supports and services for at-risk students.
Counsel students regarding future plans, including educational and career goal setting. Act as a mentor for students involved in District programs.
Provide direct, on-going support to all JVA teachers and administrators in regards to the implementation of student and community engagement.

Assess with student social and emotional behaviors and assist the student in accessing support, sharing this information with those who need to know. Facilitate small groups with students focused on anger management, resume writing, social skills etc. Facilitate team building activities. Work with the JVA staff to coordinate teaching of social emotional curriculums.
Facilitate intake and/or outtake conferences with parents, students and appropriate partner schools, including information on school options in Jefferson County, and provide student performance and discipline information.

Assist the student and parent in identifying and enrolling in appropriate District, County and or local services.
Meet with students and families, in their homes, at school, at other government or service provider facilities as well as in the community.
Be a resource to school and central based teams to support student engagement and academic success.
Provide support to improve academic achievement of students with diverse backgrounds.
Provide parents with information regarding the Jefferson County Juvenile Assessment Center, substance abuse prevention and intervention services, juvenile justice system, probation, mental health, court processes and Human Services as appropriate.

Maintain case logs and track data on individual student attendance, tardiness, discipline, academic achievement and prepare reports.
Complete documentation and reporting as required by the Colorado Department of Education.
Provide JVA administrators with information about student's strengths and needs as students return from suspension or transition back to their home school.
Perform other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE: A minimum of 3 years of experience working with schools, school district, juveniles and the juvenile justice system, experience working with students who are at-risk for suspension, truancy, dropping out of school and/or expulsion. Demonstrated experience working with students and parents from diverse backgrounds.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING : Master's Degree preferred. Bachelor's degree in social work, counseling or criminal justice.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, & REGISTRATIONS: Valid Colorado's driver's license, CPR training preferred. Must have reliable transportation.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, & EQUIPMENT: Requires strong oral communication, strong writing, interpersonal, phone etiquette, and computer and office software, general office equipment at time of hire. Have the ability to interact well with parents, students and outside agencies. Requires advanced level of training in area of specialty.
DECISION MAKING: Work is diversified and may require detailed analysis to determine practical courses of action. This analysis may involve modification of guidelines. Decision making requires independent judgment, strategic planning, and global thinking to assist in providing program direction for dropout prevention and recovery school-wide. Standards for decision making are not defined and errors in decision making could result in substantial embarrassment or cost to the District, and/or compromise student safety and the learning environment.
COMMUNITY RELATIONS: Daily contact with persons within/outside department/building, students, parents, general public, courts, Juvenile Assessment Center, probation system Human services, SB94, JCMH and/or District advisory committees to resolve problems and maintain harmonious relationships. Contacts may involve somewhat sensitive matters involving problems and/or highly confidential information or data.
SPAN OF CONTROL: This position has no supervisory responsibilities. This position serves as a resource to other building personnel regarding dropout intervention and prevention frameworks. Serve as resource assisting as a conduit for information sharing.
EDUCATIONAL DELIVERY: Facilitate problem solving meetings with families of students who have dropped out of school. Collaborate with students, parents/guardians, school personnel to create plans for educational success, increase graduation rates, decrease the dropout rate, and increase enrollment in post-secondary options.
COMPLEXITY OF WORK: Work is assigned by the Principal. Duties are diversified and complex, and cross several areas regarding student conduct. Work requires training in child serving agencies policies and governing statutes as well as District policies and procedures. Duties and actions impact others across the district.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, and feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk and hear. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The employee must be able to pass a CPI restraint class and utilize as needed. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT : The noise level in the work environment is moderate. This employee is required to work in a variety of schools and office settings.
MENTAL FUNCTIONS : While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate and use interpersonal skills. The employee is frequently required to analyze, coordinate, compile, evaluate, synthesize, and compute. The employee is occasionally required to copy, instruct, and negotiate.
