Description:
  • The teacher provides classroom instruction in Science to youth at the Spring Creek Youth Services Center. The teacher takes responsibility for knowledge of current state standards in the area of Science and prepares daily and unit lesson plans that are aligned with those standards. The teacher develops comprehensive plans for implementation of the subject matter in line with the education goals. The teacher implements a variety of research-based differentiation education strategies (including technology) to accommodate multi-age/multi-level students and various learning styles and needs. The teacher designs and implements a variety of assessment tools to evaluate new students and the progress of continuing students. The teacher establishes and maintains an appropriate classroom setting through the use of effective classroom management skills.
  • The teacher also meets informally and in scheduled meetings with the director, treatment providers and other teachers to review student and program progress. The teacher participates in professional and staff development. The teacher is responsible for implementing the Positive Behavior Intervention Support program. Other school related assignments include, but are not limited to, student staffing meetings, entering data into TRAILS, communicating effectively with stakeholders, and substituting for teacher who are absent as needed.
  • The teacher assists in the safety and security of the school and facility by supervising residents as needed and providing immediate assistance as necessary within the facility, including physical restraints and searching rooms and students when necessary. The teacher is responsible for consistently knowing the policies and procedures of the Division of Youth Corrections and the Spring Creek facility. Teachers must have an awareness and the ability to take action to prevent student behaviors that could lead to a safety and/or security violation.

Qualifications:
  • Valid Colorado Teaching License.
  • Candidate must be endorsed in the content area, passed the PLACE or Praxis test in the content area, and/or have 24 semester credits in the content area to meet NCLB "highly qualified" status.
  • Criminal background check and District fingerprinting required.
  • Transcripts required.
Note: Each college transcript shall be authentic, original or photocopy, bearing the embossed seal of the institution, the signature of the registrar, and including descriptive titles, course numbers, credits, and grades for each course listed and degrees earned, if any. For the purpose of these Rules, credits shall be in semester hours or may be interpreted as meaning the equivalent in quarter, trimester, unit or term.
