Pay Range: $17.84-$21.41 per hour

Essential Functions and Objectives:

Builds positive relationships between Denver Public Schools and its community of parents and families. Engages parents in the health, safety and education of their children. Facilitates a productive, two-way dialogue around the issues and concerns that are important to Denver Public Schools families.

- Act as a liaison and facilitate communication between family/parent, school community and/or Office of Family and Community Engagement.

- Assist families in advocating for their children.

- Provide interventions with families as needed to empower them to obtain necessary services.

- Support and coordinate adult and youth class at the Center for Family Opportunity (CFO).

- Assist families with information about school and community resources.

- Ease the integration into Denver Public Schools for those families who are new to our community and have special needs.

- Support Key FACE and School initiatives including Literacy Nights, SPACE Trainings and coordination of services of the Center for Family Opportunity (CFO).

- Research and develop materials for use in parent/family/volunteer training.

- Assist parents in navigating, trouble shoot and help parents problem solve on behalf of their child as they work with school staff.

- Provides transportation on the small 15-passinger activity bus for events and classes at the Center for Family Opportunity (CFO).

- Must be available to work during evening and weekend hours, as needed.

- Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Experience & Other Qualifications:

- At least three (3) years of experience in community work.

- Strong communication skills including verbal, written and presentation skills.

- Demonstrated organizational and problem-solving skills.

- Proficient skills with Microsoft Office products (e.g., Access, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).

- Bilingual skills in Spanish preferred.

- Valid Colorado Driver's License, appropriate insurance coverage and acceptable driving record for the past three years.

- Complete small activity bus initial and recertification training in collaboration with DPS Transportation Department in order.

- Knowledge of District, school and community resources to help parents and students.

- Excellent interpersonal skills.

- Experience managing others in achieving common goals (including conflict resolution and mediation).

- The ability to understand the complexity, frustration, joy and intensity of parenting a child with a disability.

- Must have knowledge of community resources for families and children and how to access services.

- Understanding of, and sensitivity to, various cultures and issues around parenting.

- Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and effectively with others.

- Respect of confidentiality.

Education Requirements:

- High school degree or equivalent, college preferred.
