    Summary:
    The ECE teacher is responsible for specific classroom courses that prepare High School students to become competent in childcare rules and regulations, learning environments, principles of child development, trends and issues in early childhood education and classroom management techniques. Courses taught include ECE 101, ECE 102, and ECE 180. The instructor is also responsible for internship site coordination and supervision of students in Pickens Technical College Lab School, Kids Tech.

    Responsibilities Include:
    • Designs, implements and evaluates the curriculum using a system of continuous reflection and improvement
    • Plans and provides theoretical instruction and experiences which reflect an understanding of the program’s philosophy, objectives and curriculum
    • Select and implement appropriate learning experiences based on an understanding of the program’s curricular plans
    • Selects course content and prepares lesson plans with input from the program’s occupational advisory committee members
    • Teach all standards and requirements outlined in the individual course syllabi and program approval
    • Prepares, supervises, corrects and evaluates student work
    • Participates in career advising and guidance of students
    • Responsible for disciplinary actions involving students and faculty in consultation with the Assistant Director
    • Participate on committees that share in the planning and guidance of the program; shares in continuing development and evaluation of the curriculum of the program; participates in the formulation and implementation of the philosophy and objectives of the school
    • Fosters the program’s responsiveness to community and/or employer needs.
    • Participates in meetings, in-services, workshops and other professional meetings and acts as a resource person to members of the community and other faculty members
    • Attendance of appropriate meetings to keep the school apprised of national, state, and local issues or changes
    • Participates in budget planning and administers the program budget
    • Identifies and advocates for services needed by students and staff
    • Maintain all program approvals through the Colorado Community College System
    • Schedule guest speakers for classes
    • Maintain student databases aligned with Perkins and Council on Occupational Education (COE) requirements
    • Integration of Career and Technical Student Organization Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA). FCCLA’s mission is to promote personal growth and leadership development through Family and Consumer Sciences education. Focusing on the multiple roles of family member, wage earner and community leader, members develop skills for life through: Character development, Creative and critical thinking, Interpersonal communications, Practical knowledge, and Career preparation.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director or appointed designees

    Job Qualifications:
    • Successful candidate must possess a Bachelor’s Degree, minimum 3 years of experience in the field of Early Childhood Education.
    • Possess or be eligible to obtain a Colorado Department of Education (CDE) teaching license, a Colorado Career and Technical Education (CTE) secondary, full time credential.     • Ability to work with minimal direct supervision, demonstrating ability to plan, initiate and evaluate educational programs, or ideas
    • A clear understanding and the ability to facilitate a level of sensitivity to a diverse academic, socioeconomic, multi-cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of our college students, which may include those with physical and learning disabilities.
