    During the ‘18 - ‘19 school year, the ELL Professional Assistant at GHS will provide instructional support to English Learners (ELs). This includes working with students in small groups and one-on-one in the Learning Center to help develop their English language acquisition across four language domains: listening, speaking, reading and writing, so they can participate meaningfully in content area classes.

    The responsibilities associated with this position include:
    • Working one-on-one and in small groups with EL students at various English proficiency levels to further language acquisition
    • Becoming familiar with classroom content and assisting staff in executing differentiated instructional practices;
    • Assisting in managing student behavior in order to create a safe, positive learning environment;
    • Assisting in administering district and state-required ELL assessments; and
    • Supporting the ESOL GHS Program Associate with clerical tasks (eg. photocopying, filing, creating instructional tools under their direction, organizing materials, etc.)

    Qualifications for this position include:
    • Highly proficient in spoken and written English;
    • Written and/or oral proficiency in Spanish is not required but helpful;
    • Ability to work effectively with children and teachers;
    • Sensitivity to the social-emotional and cultural needs of ELL students;
    • Interest in and respect for a variety of cultures;
    • Must be a high school graduate;
    • Experience working in a school setting preferred; and
    • Must be able to provide 2 professional references.

    Anticipated hours: F/T daily at GHS, 8:00 am - 3:30 pm
    • Assisting in administering district and state-required ELL assessments; and
    • Supporting ELL and SPED staff with clerical tasks (eg. photocopying, filing, creating instructional tools under their direction, organizing materials, etc.)

    Candidates must have a minimum of 60 college credits, an Associates degree or have passed the ParaPro test.
