Paralegal

The Chicago Public Schools (CPS) has set ambitious goals to ensure that every childin every school and every neighborhoodhas access to a world-class learning experience from birth, resulting in graduation from high school college- and career-ready.

The Paralegal will be held accountable for the following responsibilities:

1. Filing and serving pleadings in state and federal courts;
2. Maintaining the department's docket of cases, including calendaring of court dates;
3. Preparing drafts of appearances, subpoenas, deposition notices, discovery requests and responses, routine motions, courtesy copies and other legal documents for approval by attorneys;
4. Assisting with review and production of e-discovery, including privilege review and coding in Relativity;
5. Assembling, reviewing and managing document productions and hearing/trial exhibits;
6. Assisting attorneys during hearings and trials; and
7. Other tasks as assigned by attorneys.

In order to be successful and achieve the above responsibilities, the Paralegal must possess the following qualifications:

Type of Education Required : Associate's or Bachelor's degree.

Type of Experience and Number of Years : At least two years of paralegal experience in a litigation practice; preferably familiar with both state and federal courts.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

• Ability to file pleading electronically and in person;
• Excellent computer skills with proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and experience with docket management and document review software;
• Experience with Relativity preferred; and
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
