SCOPE
Math Specialists are responsible for the intellectual, social and effective development of students.
The primary role is to deliver job-embedded professional development. This can be at the classroom, building, and district level. As a coach, personalized support is provided based on the individual goals and needs of teachers.Math coaches may also assist data teams with the creation of common formative assessments, analysis of student data and work, planning of appropriate strategies, and providing general guidance on daily issues of practice related to teaching and learning.
Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to: CCSSM-aligned curriculum writing, SBAC-aligned assessment creation, modeling, co-planning, and co-delivering lessons with teachers as well as other math coaches.
Math specialists will also insure that all programs, materials and practices within the classroom are free from gender and minority bias and discrimination, and are in keeping with the letter and spirit of Title IX and Affirmative Action policies adopted by the Board of Education.
Each elementary math specialist is evaluated/supervised by the K-12 STEM Curriculum Administrator. This evaluation is based upon the Marzano Instructional Framework as elaborated in the Danbury Public Schools' Teacher Evaluation document.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must possess CT Elementary certification with a strong mathematics background.
  • Preferred minimum 3-year classroom teaching experience.
  • Preferred coaching background.
  • Preferred experience in writing curriculum and providing professional development.
  • Must produce evidence of meeting No Child Left Behind (NCLB) requirements, as applicable.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to deliver content.
  • Ability to relate successfully with staff, families and students from diverse backgrounds, experiences and skill levels.
  • Demonstrated ability to implement differentiated instruction and build upon the strengths and challenges of a multi-cultural and multi-racial classroom/district.
Working Conditions:
Work year, salary and benefits in accordance with agreement between the Danbury Board of Education and NEA-Danbury.
