About the Instructional Aide Role

Lighthouse Community Charter School is looking for talented individuals to join our Instructional Aide team who are relentlessly committed to ensuring that traditionally underserved students of color achieve our mission of completing college and securing the career of choice. RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide moderate to intense support to one or two children specifically assigned, and to assist in the attainment of each child's behavior goals. This may include, but is not limited to:
    • Engage in training/coaching on de-escalation strategies.
    • Assist core teacher in supporting the student(s) to access academic instruction.
    • Facilitate practice of long and short-term goals in daily tasks.
    • Facilitate social interactions between the child and other children.
    • Practice "fade-back" support providing what is necessary to achieve goals.
    • Encourage generalization of skills and independence.
    • Ensure the safety of the child at all times.
    • Interfaces with team providing anecdotal information on progress and strategies via team meetings and collaboration with the core teacher.
    • Collaborate with the core teacher to maintain daily contact with the family and assist in carryover of goals.
    • Attend and actively participate in professional development activities, team and staff meetings.

Other additional responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • A.A. required, Bachelor's Degree preferred
  • 2+ years working with urban youth in either a school, non-profit, or youth empowerment setting. Experience in a school setting is a plus
  • Bilingual in Spanish a plus


TIME COMMITMENT

Instructional aidesare expected to maintain hours of 8:00 - 4:00 pm on M, T, Th, F, and 8:00-5:00 on Wednesday for Professional Development.

SUPERVISION

This position reports to the K-4 Director of Instruction.
