POSITION OVERVIEW:

Assists Bus Driver in providing safe transportation children. Cooperates with Bus Driver in establishing a good physical and emotional climate conducive to the optimum development of each child. Assists the Bus Driver in cleaning the interior and exterior of the bus on a regular basis. Substitutes in classroom when assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below represent the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Minimum 18 years of age. Experience working with young children in a formal setting. Bilingual ability in Spanish/English preferred. Child Abuse registry must be clear with no pending concerns.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Assists Bus Driver in providing safe transportation for the children by :
  2. Ensure all children are seated at all times while the bus is in motion.
  3. Ensure all children wear seat belts or are secured in an approved child safety restraint system.
  4. Ensure all children enter and exit the bus safely.
  5. Conduct a thorough inspection of bus to verify all children have exited.
  6. Complete assigned paperwork.
  7. Cooperates with Bus Driver in establishing a good physical and emotional climate conducive to the optimum development of each child.
  8. Follows safe arrival/departure policy and completes required forms daily.
  9. Assists with bus evacuation drills.
  10. Provides conversation and appropriate activities for children during the bus ride. (Participates in finger plays, songs, and "road games.")
  11. Assists children into and out of program buildings and homes.
  12. Communicates positively with parents, documenting concerns pertaining to the children, delivering messages to the lead educator.
  13. Assists the Bus Driver in cleaning the interior of the bus on a regular basis.
  14. Assists in parent involvement.
  15. Substitutes in classroom when assigned
  16. Related duties as assigned.
  17. Attend all necessary trainings and meetings.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

First Aid and CPR.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below represent the knowledge, skill and/or abilities needed.

Must be able to pass a physical and TB test. Ability to: Respond to emergency situations, bend, crouch, kneel, twist, pull, carry and hold small children. Occasional light lifting.

Salary Range: From/To: SALARY AND TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: The Bus Monitor is a part-time, hourly position. The Bus Monitor shall be employed up to ten months per year. The pay scale will go as follows: *Years with DECC Hourly Rate 0-2 $9.50 3-5 $10.00 6+ $10.50 *Every new bus monitor will start out at 0 years.

The position is not eligible for state benefits or pension.

EVALUATION:
The Bus Monitor shall be evaluated annually by the Program Manager according to policies approved by the Lake Forest Board of Education.

A person may not be employed by a public school employer in any position requiring licensure and certification if the person does not meet licensure and certification requirements established under Chapter 12 of [Title 14 of the Delaware Code]..., except pursuant to a license extension and/or emergency certificate issued pursuant to Chapter 12. See 14 Del. C.§ 1313.
