The School District of Clayton is seeking a talented educator to teach literacy and social studies at Wydown Middle School for the 2018-2019 school year. This is a one-year assignment. The successful candidate will have a strong foundation in the study of literature, writing, social studies and relevant content knowledge in American History, and middle school pedagogy. Middle school literacy/social studies teachers guide students to make personal connections to literature and history. The successful candidate will be knowledgeable about middle school philosophy and the developmental needs of adolescents and will be able to present the curriculum using a problem-centered approach.
The successful candidate:
Holds high expectations for all students and sees themselves as a facilitator of student learning
Organizes and uses a variety of teaching techniques, strategies, materials, and technology to maximize the learning of each child, individually and in group settings
Assesses student progress, provides students and parents with specific feedback, and uses the results to differentiate instruction
Provides opportunities for academic support and challenge
Takes responsibility for teaching the District curriculum as outlined in the curriculum documents
Demonstrates an understanding of how knowledge in their subject areas is created, organized, and linked to other disciplines and life experiences
Keeps abreast of current developments in their field and continues to deepen their understanding of their discipline(s)
Demonstrates a respectful, cooperative, and caring manner with students and adults in the school community

Education: Bachelor's Degree required. Major or minor in content area preferred. Master's Degree preferred.
