Job Summary:
The responsibilities for this position in the Office of Engagement include supporting the operational aspects of the District's outreach and engagement strategy, managing external relationships with partners and volunteers, and planning and implementing key events, projects and programs while supporting key outcomes in student advocacy and family and community empowerment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Serves as the key planner and project leader for all family and community outreach and engagement events, including: community meetings, Summerfest, teacher, student and family town halls, presentations, forums and large-scale volunteer opportunities for the purpose of connecting KCPS with students, families, community members and other stakeholder groups as identified
Initiates and leads a process of asset mapping, continuously discovering opportunities represented by Kansas City's many community resources, including community residents and parents, churches, voluntary associations, public, private and non-profit institutions, and physical assets; creates a database of community resources uncovered from the asset mapping process
Manages the ongoing development and oversight of the Volunteer Matters volunteer management system, assists schools in ensuring compliance with volunteer policy and procedures, and supports external partners with volunteer-focused programming
Leads the administrative process of completing formalized partnership agreements, including ensuring approval at various levels (school, legal, and Executive Cabinet)
Assists in the coordination of service learning projects for students as well as oversees the development and implementation of the district-wide student council initiative
Helps to connect the KCPS partnership community at large with each other in order to strategically work together to help KCPS students and families
Supports local schools in the implementation of school-based activities which impact school achievement in family and community engagement
Maintains a database of parent and community contacts and volunteers for the purpose of developing ongoing communication and ad hoc committees
Assists in the coordination of service learning projects for students as part of the management of the district-wide student council initiative; serves as the district-wide student council liaison
Works with webmaster to develop an online clearinghouse of school and parent resources
Establishes a dynamic and robust online presence using social media campaigns to engage and influence key audiences; integrates online campaigns with traditional communication channels
Attends Board of Education meetings as needed to communicate meeting information to the public
Responds to patron/community requests for information
Qualification Requirements:
Minimum
Bachelor's Degree in Non-Profit Management, Public Relations or related field from an accredited institution
Prior experience in event planning, public relations, or volunteer and partner management
Evidence of excellent interpersonal communication, critical thinking, problem solving, and team building skills
Excellent writing and editing skills
Organized and detail-oriented with the ability to multitask, analyze and drive process improvement.
Proven track record managing multiple projects on deadline
Ability to work with many stakeholder groups
Preferred
Ability to speak, write or understand conversational Spanish
Media training and media relations experience
Strong technology skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite and with websites and social media
Ability to use photo and video equipment and editing software
Excellent social media content creation and management skills
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:Length of work year: 12 months
