  • JOB TITLE: Behavior Support Room Teacher
    LOCATION: Fort Logan Northgate
    WORK YEAR: 185 Days
    WORK STATUS: Full Time Probationary, Exempt
    REPORTS TO: Principal and Assistant Principal

    POSITION SUMMARY:
    The Fort Logan Northgate Behavior Support Room Teacher is a newly created position to support third and fourth grade students in developing essential skills to be successful in the regular classroom while providing explicit grade level instruction and behavior skill instruction. Instruction includes core subject at both grade levels in a targeted fashion. This teacher would need a strong background at both grade levels to provide essential math and literacy skills at both levels. This teacher will also need to have a high comfort level with supporting challenging behaviors. This teacher will also have the support of one paraprofessional to transition students from the behavior support room to the general education setting. This teacher will supervise the paraprofessional and collaborate on how to best support students.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Teaching of essential skills at both 3 rd and 4 th grade
    • Targeted behavior skill development to build student capacity to learn
    • Supervision and ongoing training of an para-professional
    • Provides ongoing collaborative support to tier 1 teachers for students re-entering tier 1 classrooms

    KEY RESULT AREAS AND ATTENDANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Instructional Planning
    • Develop curriculum as determined by the needs of the school
    • Plan instruction consistent with the district-approved curriculum for assigned subject area(s)/grade level(s)
    • Use formal and informal methods to assess the abilities and needs of students.
    • Plan effective use of class time.
    Instructional Interaction (Teaching)
    • Apply principles of teaching/learning to enhance student achievement.
    • Utilize teaching methods that are appropriate for the objectives and learners.
    • Modify instruction to meet student needs.
    • Communicate effectively with learners.
    • Provide for and maintain student involvement during instruction.
    Evaluation of instruction
    • Use the evaluation of student outcomes to measure the effectiveness of instruction.
    • Communicate effectively student progress to student and parent/guardian and Tier 1 teacher
    Instructional management
    • Attend to tasks in a manner that maximizes instruction.
    • Maintain necessary student records.
    • Assist in planning for appropriate use of volunteers/aides as assigned
    Learning Environment
    • Establish clear expectations for appropriate behavior.
    • Establish consequences for inappropriate behavior.
    • Build students' capacity to succeed in a Tier 1 classroom
    Professional Responsibilities
    • Participate in professional growth opportunities.
    • Adhere to the code of ethics of the teaching professional of the State of Colorado.
    • Recognize problems and actively contribute to their resolutions.
    • Collaborate with others to fulfill responsibilities related to building and district goals and priorities.

    General
    • Accept and fulfill assigned responsibilities and duties in a prompt and efficient manner.
    • Follow Board of Education policies, building procedures and any other rules, regulations or procedures that may be established by the District or Building administrators.
    • Perform other duties as may be assigned by the building principal in accordance with District Policies.

    SUPERVISORY DUTIES:
    Schedule, direct work, provide training and evaluate employee performance for Instructional Para-Professional.

    POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
    Required
    • Minimum of three years teaching experience working in a richly diverse school community and environment.
    • Must hold a valid Colorado Teaching License
      Preferred
    • Experience teaching third and fourth grade
    • Experience managing challenging behaviors

    GENERAL EXPECTATIONS:
    • Demonstrated knowledge and skill regarding the components of effective instruction.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of developmental needs of students, behavior management and trauma informed care.
    • Demonstrated effective written and oral communication skills.
    • Evidence of ability to establish and maintain effective, cooperative relationships with school personnel, students and parents.
    • Has the ability to work collaboratively with all stakeholders.
    • Maintains a positive attitude and is a team player.
    • Observes all district policies and procedures.

    ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
    The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions requires the following physical demands: regularly talking and hearing, occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling: and signification fine finger dexterity. Frequently the job requires sitting, walking, and standing. This job is performed in generally a clean and healthy environment.

    CLEARANCE:
    Must clear background check through the CBI and the FBI through Fingerprint submission.

    SALARY:
    Placement on Licensed Salary Schedule based upon previous teaching experience and highest degree and college credits earned after student teaching was completed. Current Board approved Licensed Teacher Salary Schedule, Salary Placement Policy, and Master Agreement are available forreview on our district website at www.ssd2.org . Highest initial step placement on the Licensed Salary Schedule is Step 9.

    BENEFITS:
    Employees who are scheduled to work 30 or more hours per week in the 2018/2019 school year are eligible to obtain district health benefits which include medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance and supplemental benefits. Positions that qualify for health benefits also qualify for leave which could include vacation and daily leave to be determined by the position and number of days assigned. Sheridan School District No. 2 is a public employer and participates in the Colorado Public Employees' Retirement Association (PERA). All employees are required by statute to contribute 8% of salary on a pre-tax basis to PERA. The District also contributes a 20.15% in addition to the employee contribution.
