Job Title: Instrumental Music Teacher, 0.6 FTE, One Year Appointment for 2018/2019 School Year
School: District-wide (Multiple school assignments)
Salary: Per Teacher's CBA

Summary: SPS seeks a Instrumental Music teacher. Responsibilities include teaching grades 4-12 instrumental music classes across the district.

The successful candidate will possess the appropriate Massachusetts Educators License in music to help students develop an appreciation for the art of music as part of general culture; to teach techniques of vocal and/or instrumental music expression; to discover and develop talents in the field of music; to develop knowledge and skills in listening to and reading music.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Demonstrate knowledge, skill, and ability to provide instruction in an elementary/middle school music setting with appropriate musical skills for singing, playing, conducting, and musical literature, and musical understanding
  • Evaluates each student's musical growth and performance
  • Experience in producing and stage performances
  • Utilizes repertoire of all types of music literature, including traditional and contemporary that are appropriate for the ages and skill levels of each student
  • Selects appropriate music, books and instructional materials to enhance learning and requisitions musical instruments and instructional supplies as necessary
  • Ability to motivate students and get them excited about learning
  • Prepare teaching materials and related reports (grading papers with objective answers, attendance and anecdotal records) for the purpose of implementing lesson plans and documenting student progress
  • Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and self-selected professional growth activities
  • Provides structure in the classroom by promoting a positive classroom environment that is conducive to learning
  • Additional duties may be assigned

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree (Required)
  • Applicants must hold a current DESE teaching certification in Education/Music (K-12)
  • Knowledge in music and elementary education intervention strategies and actual implementation
  • Minimum of 1 year teaching experience and working in an urban public school or charter school setting preferred
  • Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and self-selected professional growth activities
  • Current authorization to work in the United States
