Job Title: Anticipated High School ESL Summer Academy Teacher (Internal Candidates, Only)

Dates: Program Preparation/Planning: 4 afternoons in June, TBD

Program: July 9- August 2, Monday-Thursday

Hours: 7:15-12:15

(8:00-12:00, teaching; 7:15-8, 12-12:15, collaborative planning)

Location: Salem High

Stipend: $4050

The Salem Public Schools English Language Learning (ELL) Department is looking for certified ESL teachers to provide engaging English language instruction for grade 9-12 newcomer ELL students in an interdisciplinary summer program. Teachers will instruct at Salem High Monday through Wednesday and supervise students at community sites on Thursday's.

Teachers will use a thematic approach focusing on a curriculum and theme of community involvement, with instructional materials supplied by the ELL Department. Teachers will also collaborate with one another and with parents to ensure that each child has an academically successful and joyful learning experience in the 4-week summer program. (Additional duties as assigned.)

Qualifications:
  • Licensed ESL teacher, with teaching experience in a 6-12 context
  • Experience teaching ESL to children at differing levels of English proficiency
  • Ability to plan and deliver engaging, rigorous lessons across the content areas (science, ELA, math, with ESL focus)
  • Demonstrated commitment to high expectations for all students by building on the strengths that students bring to the language learning process
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other summer program team members
  • Must be available for the entirety of the program
  • Bilingual, highly preferred
