    District 65 is looking for an innovative instructional leader to become the next principal of Oakton Elementary School. Oakton is a unique and diverse elementary school serving students K-5 with multiple programs including: general education, African Centered Curriculum (ACC), Two-Way Immersion (TWI), and a continuum of special education services. Oakton's new leader must be able to establish and promote high expectations for all students, as well as collaborate with a variety of stakeholders to explore, understand and celebrate the diversity that makes Oakton such a special school community.     Purpose Statement:
    The job of Principal is done for the purpose/s of ensuring that all children are reaching their full academic potential. The Principal is the instructional leader of the school, and serves in this role in order to ensure high levels of learning for all students. The principal works closely with teachers, educational support staff, parents, and students for the improvement of school programs. The principal is the school's lead advocate for all children entrusted to him/her. In addition, the Principal is responsible for directing site operations, enforcing policies and regulatory requirements, providing information and serving as a resource to others.

    Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
    SKILLS are required to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to periodically upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: planning and managing projects; using pertinent software applications; preparing and maintaining accurate records; administering personnel policies; applying curriculum and instructional techniques; conducting interviews; conducting meetings; critical observation; enforcing discipline policies; and investigating problems.

    KNOWLEDGE is required to perform algebra and/or geometry; review and interpret highly technical information, write technical materials, and/or speak persuasively to implement desired actions; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Specific Knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: pertinent codes, policies, regulations and/or laws; conflict resolution; bookkeeping principles; concepts of management and supervision; practices of personnel administration; principles of negotiation/arbitration; and school safety and security practices.

    ABILITY is required to schedule a number of activities, meetings, and/or events; gather, collate, and/or classify data; and use job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to independently work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; analyze data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with a variety of data; and utilize job-related equipment. Independent problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data frequently requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is limited to moderate. Specific Ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: communicating with diverse groups; maintaining confidentiality; setting priorities; working as part of a team; working with frequent interruptions; creating a positive school climate for students, staff and community; motivating staff; and adapting to changing work priorities.

    Job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is required


    Masters degree in job-related area

    Terms Of Employment :
    Twelve-month year (July 1 to June 30)
    Salary and work year to be determined by the Board of Education
