Position Summary

The Student Recruitment and Family Engagement Coordinator at New Visions Charter High School for the Humanities III are part of the administrative team that work closely with school staff, school leadership teams, parent associations, community groups, and parent advisory councils to engage families and involve them in school communities. This position focuses on creating a welcoming and supportive environment for parents and guardians. The Student Recruitment and Family Engagement Associate is also charged with identifying issues of concern to families and working with school leaders to ensure that these issues are addressed in a timely manner

Responsibilities and Duties

Key Responsibilities

Student Recruitment
  • Work closely with New Visions Network Student Recruitment Team and Director of School Operations to create a plan to secure 1,5000 student applications annually
  • Build relationships with feeder middle schools, conduct outreach to schools throughout Brooklyn, organize meetings with middle school students, school staff, and families; and create, update, and give presentations to middle school personnel
  • Organize all areas of the NYC High School Fairs, recruitment fairs, and community events including: preparing marketing materials for recruitment, coordinate staff, volunteers, and materials. Conduct open houses, student tours, and new parent orientations
  • Along with design team, create promotional material to attract new families
  • Create, update, and give presentations to prospective families & middle school personnel.Lottery and Enrollment Coordinate the implementation of the new student lottery in compliance with State law and maintain student waiting list, in conjunction with the DSO and the New Visions CMO
  • Manage the school’s enrollment process in its entirety: Notify families we received their application with a personal email, or letter, and/or phone call; conduct regular and ongoing outreach to applicants and families, extend seat offers to parents once the lottery is complete and actively manage the waitlist
  • Meet with families individually to assist in the registration and enrollment process In collaboration with Director of School Operations create monthly Newsletter, Calendars and family correspondence In collaboration with the school’s culture team, plan student and family events throughout the school year.

Community Engagement and Communication
  • Seek out and build partnerships with local organizations, business, community groups, churches, media outlets to brand our school and recruit students
  • Educate community advocates and politicians about the schools through relationship building, school visits & tours, community events, etc. Manage microsite content and all social media accounts
  • Draft regular press releases highlighting school-wide events, activities and partnerships

Qualifications and Skills

A BA or BS from an accredited college

At least 3 years experience in community work (i.e., community organizing, coalition building, project/program managing) in an area related to the duties described

A flexible schedule with respect to work hours (including some early mornings, evenings and Saturdays) in order to meet the needs of parents

Fluency in Spanish, Haitian Creole or Russian highly desired with a preference for written communication skills

Excellent computer skills including proficiency with Google Docs and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word, Excel and Access

Must be able to use various social media platforms: Mailchimp, Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat
