    QUALIFICATIONS:
  • New Jersey Certificate or eligibility for Supervisor and Social Work.
  • Training and experience equivalent to a Master's Degree.
  • Knowledge of laws and regulations governing special education; and demonstrated ability to effectively assess children's learning characteristics, design appropriate instructional strategies and plan educational programs.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills in the areas of special services management.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong commitment to youth and ability to work effectively with parents.
  • Successful in creating collaborative relationships or coalitions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Commitment to school design and philosophy.
  • Required criminal history background check, proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident status & NJ residency.

  • REPORTS TO: Executive Director

    JOB GOAL: The Supervisor of Special Services is charged with the administration, supervision, and operation of the school's special services (including special education services and I&RS services) across grades PreK-8. It is the supervisor's responsibility to see that these programs functions within the framework of the policies of the Board of Trustees and the State Board of Education. The Supervisor is expected to provide leadership to the staff and assists in interpreting the special services program with the community.

    PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Leadership
  • i.Manages assigned special services programs in accordance with law, administrative code and Board policies and regulations, and in coordination with school principals.
    ii.Collaborates with principals in school-level planning for implementation and improvement of special services and instruction.
    iii.Works with principals to develop professional development in special services-related topics and skills, including positive behavior techniques, instructional accommodation and curriculum modification
    iv.Ensures compliance of special service programs with all relevant laws and regulations, including all reporting and communication with state and federal agencies. Case Management i.As Child Study Team Case Manager, leads the coordinating, developing, monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of the Individual Education Program of designated students.
    ii.Coordinates all special services required for designated students, including internal services, external providers, and home instruction.
    iii.Prepares or supervises the preparation of all reports, records, and other paperwork required or appropriate to administration of special services.
    iv.Ensures the safekeeping of student and personnel files and other confidential records and documents; and the destruction of public records in accordance with law and regulations. Social Work i.Serves as the Social Worker member of the Child Study Team, complying with state and federal statutes; participates in the evaluation, identification, classification and placement of all pupils requiring Special Education.
    ii.Performs or coordinates social assessment of students referred to the Child Study Team for evaluation, including observation of the student, and an evaluation of family, school and community factors which contribute to the student's social and academic adjustment within the educational setting. Assessment of a student will be in terms of a personal and family history, and socioeconomic, and cultural factors.
    iii.Provides individual or group social work services to students as needed. Parent Engagement i.Leads required annual Special Education Parent activities.
    ii.Maintains liaison with parents of classified students for the purposes of sharing information regarding educational planning and programming, aiding families in utilizing community resources, and counseling families and/or students to facilitate school adjustment.
    iii.Counsels parents and students in order to help them achieve a desirable social and school adjustment and coordinates counseling activities with other appropriate school personnel. Professional i.Keeps updated on assessment techniques, community changes and statutory requirements of IDEA & N.J.A.C. 6:28.
    ii.Assumes responsibility for his/her continuing professional growth and development by attendance at professional meetings, memberships in professional organizations, enrollment in advanced courses and by reading professional journals and other publications.
    iii.Attends special school-sponsored activities and functions.
    iv.Performs other duties, which may be assigned by Executive Director or required by law, code, regulation, and board policy.

    TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
    Ten-month employee. Salary to be recommended by Executive Director and approved by board.

    EVALUATION
    Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with the board's policy on evaluation of the superintendent.
