    Salary Range: $36,800 - $76,500

    SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONS: The primary responsibility of the School Counselor is to plan, organize, and implement an appropriate instructional program in an elementary or secondary learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential; Performs instructional and related duties in accordance with District policies and terms of the teacher contract. The Counselor also maintains a cooperative attitude with staff, parents, and students.

    QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.     REQUIRED:
    • Valid Colorado Special Services License within 60 days from date of hire
    • School Counselor Endorsement or
    • Master's degree in Community/Family Counseling and passing the PLACE or PRAXIS exam for School Counseling and
    • Enroll in a Colorado state approved program for School Counseling and completion of program within 3 years
    • Counselor must be highly qualified in applicable content area through the following options:
      • Endorsement on a Colorado Special Services license and
      • Passing score on a State Board of Education approved content exam (currently the ETS Praxis Series)
    • Employee must complete a fingerprint-based criminal background check and must be cleared by the Office of Human Resources
    • Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, using proper grammar and vocabulary

    PREFERRED:
    • Knowledge of content standards and implementation
    • Ability to use data to make instructional decisions
    • Experience and ability to collaborate and team teach
    • Experience and ability to teach and implement school wide programs such as No Bully, Positive Behavior Support, and Character Education at all levels PK-8
    • Experience and ability to work effectively with staff, students, and parents
    • Experience and ability to monitor student attendance, complete appropriate paperwork, file truancy reports, work collaboratively with the office of pupil support services
    • Experience and ability to provide individual counseling and maintain support groups (anger management, social skills, bully proofing, girls support, behavior management, Character Education, etc...)
    • Experience and ability to work effectively with community agencies (DSS, Police, Operation School Bell, etc...)
    • Experience and ability to multi task and chair school committees as designated by Principal
    • Experience and willingness to make home visits and accompany teachers on home visits
    • Knowledge, understanding and experience in working collaboratively with County Court operations/procedures
    • Ability and willingness to organize and provide support services for teachers and school community including parents
    • Experience and knowledge in the use of computer systems and software
