Boston Public Schools seeks a School-Based Instructional Coach.

REPORTS TO: BPS Technology Director

POSITION OVERVIEW:

BPS Technology's mission is to provide the technology foundation, vision, leadership, and support for the Boston Public Schools community in the use of technology as a tool to achieve its academic and operational goals to increase student performance and close the achievement gap. Through a grant funded opportunity, Boston Public Schools is partnering with Verizon and Digital Promise to increase STEAM learning opportunities for students, while also improving access to online and digital tools in a 1:1 environment. The School-Based Instructional Coach will lead the successful implementation of schoolwide technology infused learning as well collaborate with BPS Technology.

S/he will play a prominent role in aligning the district vision of STEAM to the specific needs and priorities of the school, including turning broad goals and big ideas into practical strategies in the classroom. S/he will collaborate closely with the school principal and district to develop a coherent integration plan and empower teachers to implement new tools and techniques. Additionally, s/he will capture promising practices to share throughout the district, and connect their learnings to broader district learning goals and initiatives.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Works and collaborates with BPS Technology, Digital Promise, and school leadership to develop and execute strategic plans.
  • Understands and communicates alignment between district initiatives and school project goals.
  • Supports school leaders in developing a plan for STEAM, including teacher supports, trainings, promising practices, and student opportunities.
  • Collaborates with and supports educators in the integration of effective uses of digital technology through a consistent pattern of strategic outreach and informal support, including classroom observations, modeling and co-teaching.
  • Incorporates the use of data to improve instruction within professional development activities.
  • Promotes a strong learning culture among all project participants and builds relationships to encourage risk taking.
  • Fosters collaboration, creating, and sharing of digital learning strategies and resources among educators and school community.
  • Nurture and grow student opportunities for leadership in technology including the development of a student tech team.
  • Document innovative learning strategies for ongoing project assessment.

QUALIFICATIONS-REQUIRED:
  • Bachelor's degree,
  • Active and valid Massachusetts teaching license
  • Minimum three years classroom experience
  • Experience and successful implementation of digital resources to advance teaching and learning
  • Strong understanding of pedagogy and instructional design
  • Successful experience leading adult learning
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, particularly around listening and empathy
  • Creative problem-solver; ability to adapt and learn quickly

QUALIFICATIONS-PREFERRED:
  • Exemplary experience as both a teacher and a leader at the K-12 level
  • Knowledge and use of Apple products such as the MacBook and iPad
  • Excellent knowledge and use of peripherals and apps to enhance learning
  • Understanding and experience in 1 to 1 learning environments

TERMS: BTU Group I, 182 Days + 5% differential- 2-year position (SY17-18 & SY18-19); 4.5 days school-based; .5 day central-based
