  • JOB TITLE: Culture, Equity and Language Director
    LOCATION: Lower Campus
    WORK YEAR: 260 work days
    WORK STATUS: Full Time, Exempt
    REPORTS TO: Chief Academic Officer

    POSITION SUMMARY:
    The Culture, Equity and Language Director is a leadership position and is responsible for developing and providing cultural awareness, maximizing student-learning experiences and increasing achievement through the direction of the districts ELA programs, community outreach and homeless education.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:
    • Develop, implement and manage a comprehensive program for ELA, community outreach and homeless education through a structured process involving the district's administration and stakeholders. In addition, be responsible for completing the associated evaluations and state reports.
    • Direct the coordination of services for Limited English Proficient and homeless students attending Sheridan School District schools.
    • Serve as liaison between students in the programs and/or their parents with district staff and community services including registration, parent conferences and home learning skills.
    • Provide training, coaching and consultation for classroom teachers to provide effective instructional practices, community engagement and homeless education.
    • Provide cultural competence training to district employees.
    • Direct and facilitate induction training for new teachers.
    • Continuously monitor the progress of students and program consistency throughout the district students using all available information and data sources.
    • Facilitate the translation of written English materials into Spanish and supervises the translation into other languages as required. Schedules interpreters for all district and school events as required.
    • Oversee all ELA assessments, testing and student progression through the ELA program.
    • Maintain the official program records and statistics for all ELL and homeless students, and create an awareness and use of this data for all district administration and teachers.
    • Work in the community and collaboratively with District programs and committees to ensure that parents of all district students are given the opportunity to fully participate in their children's education.
    • Perform other duties as assigned or requested by the Superintendent or CAO.


    SUPERVISORY DUTIES:
    Schedule, direct work, provide training and evaluate employee performance for direct reports including District Translators and District Homeless Coordinator. Will also make hiring and termination recommendations to Superintendent and Board of Education.

    POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

    Education and related work experience:
    • Master's degree in job related area.
    • Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in a leadership role, and working with students and in an ELA program.
    • Advanced leadership, team building, PD/training, written and verbal communication, facilitation, date gathering, disaggregation and analysis, and computer skills. The candidate must be Spanish speaking and bi-cultural.
    • Experience working in a richly diverse school community and environment is highly desirable.
    • Ability to speak, read, and write both in Spanish and English.
    • Experience in school administration and supervision preferred.

    Licenses or certification:
    Must hold a valid CDE License with Spanish or ELA endorsement or equivalent experience.

    ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
    The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions required the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling: and signification fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires sitting, walking, and standing. This job is performed in generally a clean and healthy environment.

    CLEARANCE:
    Must clear background check through the CBI and the FBI through Fingerprint submission.

    SALARY:
    Placement on Range 3 of the Administrative Salary Schedule is between $89,502 - 99,840 based upon previous related experience . Current Board approved Administrative Salary Schedule is available for review on our district website at www.ssd2.org . Highest initial step placement is Step 5.

    BENEFITS:
    Employees who are scheduled to work 30 or more hours per week in the 2018/2019 school year are eligible to obtain district health benefits which include medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance and supplemental benefits. Positions that qualify for health benefits also qualify for leave which could include vacation and daily leave to be determined by the position and number of days assigned. Sheridan School District No. 2 is a public employer and participates in the Colorado Public Employees' Retirement Association (PERA). All employees are required by statute to contribute 8% of salary on a pre-tax basis to PERA. The District also contributes a 20.15% in addition to the employee contribution.
