Summary:
The Instructional Coach is a critical lever in improving student achievement. The role of the coach is to build teacher capacity. An instructional coach is a learner who models continuous improvement, lifelong learning and goes above and beyond to ensure student success. Coaches will provide high quality instruction in classrooms through modeling, co-planning, co-teaching and providing insightful feedback to teachers. The instructional coach will demonstrate and model a passion for urban education reform and leadership. This is not a supervisory position and does not include evaluation of colleagues.
I t is the responsibility of each instructional staff member to help to create a classroom learning environment and culture that is consistent with the Educational Plan. All staff members are responsible for academic, social and behavioral processes and outcomes of their students. KCCS staff are expected to work collaboratively with other teachers, staff and administration in order to create an outstanding learning culture for their students. Instructional Staff are also expected to follow all the processes laid out in our charter. We expect all staff to be flexible and support the needs of the school as other duties arise.
Duties and Responsibilities :
COACHING DUTIES
  • Supervise school-based instructional procedures and MUST-DO's
  • Assist teachers in understanding and implementing the school mission
  • Model lessons in the classrooms as needed
  • Support the instructional development of teachers through continuous classroom observations, meetings and debriefing sessions
  • Build strong relationships with teachers, administrators and other coaches
  • Keep documentation of all coaching sessions, meetings, emails, conversations etc. (Coaching Log)
  • Help teachers use data to drive instructional shifts
  • Assist teachers with resources, tools, information to support classroom instruction and planning
  • Develop coaching plans for teachers to boost student achievement
  • Attend summer trainings
  • Provide insight into new researched based teaching strategies and learning structures
  • Motivate and drive teachers to self-reflect and initiate change
  • Implement a process to check for student retention of taught material
  • Assist in strengthening basic structure for instruction
  • Assist with conducting regular data checks, lesson plan checks, bulletin board checks
OTHER STAFF DUTIES:
  • Hours: 7:45-3:45, regular attendance, 30-minute lunch break, 30 minute planning period, attend weekly staff meetings each Wednesday until 4:30 p.m.
  • Complete weekly coaching plans
  • Attend and participate in school-wide professional development sessions, implement strategies in the classroom
  • Develop positive relationships with parents, students and KCCS faculty
  • Follow the classroom and school-wide schedule created by the Leadership Team
  • Differentiate to meet the needs of all students
  • Implement CSI Action Plan items
  • Communicate student data to the leadership team as well as parents and students (data meetings, Parent Teacher Conferences, progress reports, report cards)
  • Participate in school events and extra curricular activities
  • Follow school-wide behavior management systems
  • Adhere to the KCCS Employee and Student/Parent handbook
  • Establish effective classroom management techniques
  • Establish a safe, clean, organized learning environment free from hazard
  • Use technology to enhance planning and instruction
  • Participate in Mentor/Coaching program as necessary
  • Participate in 8 days of pre-service training at the start of each school year
  • Keep evidence and artifacts that support the goals in the KCCS accountability plan
  • All staff will receive annual reviews at the end of each school year and will be held accountable for student achievement data
  • Other duties as assigned (arrival, dismissal, lunch coverage, etc)
Qualifications
  • Valid NYS Teaching Certificate
  • Master's Degree
  • Urban Experience preferred
  • Excellent record keeping skills
  • Coaching, Leadership experience
  • Minimum of 5 years classroom teaching experience
  • Computer Skills (Excel, PPT)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Welcoming, warm, disposition
  • Strong pedagogical knowledge and content expertise
  • Proven ability in using student-level data to guide instructional decisions
