Position: 5th Grade ELA Teacher
Reports To: K-5 Building Principal, Jennifer Pangborn
Wage/Hour Status: Exempt/ 10 month

Position Summary: To plan, organize and implement an appropriate instructional program in a pseudo-middle school EL Education learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential using Tapestry's core values of: perseverance, integrity, respect and responsibility.
In this model, you are an ELA teacher in a semi-departmentalized team of 4 teachers. Two teachers teach Expedition (science/social studies & math), while the other two teachers teach ELA. There are a total of 80 students in the 5th grade. This position requires you to share a small cohort of 40 students that will go between yourself and a math and sci/ss teacher daily. Class sizes are 20 total. You will be in a brand new K-5 building located at 111 Great Arrow Ave.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Use EL Core Practices as teacher in an EL Education School
- Work with a diverse population of students in an urban setting
- Plan, prepare and deliver engaging lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning
- Use relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction
- Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules, expectations and procedures that includes restorative justice aspects
- Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and use information to adjust teaching strategies (DDI)
- Establish and communicate learning targets for all learning activities
- Observe and evaluate student's performance and development
- Assign and grade class work, homework, tests and assignments
- Demonstrate preparation and skill in working with students in diverse cultural, economic and ability backgrounds
- Commitment to the success of all children
- Encourage parent and community involvement, obtain information for parents when requested, promptly return phone calls and answer emails
- Demonstrates success in collaborative teaching, managing a mixed ability classroom and facilitating performance based learning
- Participate in appropriate professional actives
- Other duties as assigned
