Job Description

Title: Intake and Case Coordinator ( Tier B)
Boston Collaborative High School, St. Mary's

About the School:

St. Mary's is an academic transitional blended-learning program that exclusively serves young women who are pregnant. St. Mary's offers a holistic approach with social, emotional support and life skills development for all students. The program serves young mothers from all over the City of Boston.

St. Mary's strives to empower expectant and parenting young mothers, to achieve academic success and prepare them to succeed in college, career, and life in general. Our staff strives to provide emotional, parental, and academic development with a student-centered approach in a small learning environment.

Responsibilities:

The following responsibilities are critical elements of providing wraparound support to the pregnant and parenting students in the program:
  1. Creating an equal and trusting partnership with the pregnant or parenting students
  2. Supporting student development of an individualized set of personal, educational and vocational goals driven and owned by the student to help them transition to responsible, self-sustaining adulthood
  3. Providing (in an adult professional manner) flexibility, individualization, nurturing, family engagement, guidance through positive role modeling, and consistent coordination

Students Support
  1. Developing trust and familiarity with students in the program, including demonstrating interest in their lives in and outside of school
  2. Developing and maintaining effective working relationships with program teachers, counselors, teachers, and administrative staff
    1. Participating in program meetings related to case management of student participants
    2. Assisting program personnel with follow-up of students who have excessive absences, tardiness, unsatisfactory grades, and suspensions
  3. Screening referrals and conducting intake interviews
    1. Determining with a team the appropriateness and eligibility of referrals, keeping information gathered in the referral process confidential and protected
    2. Informing, as appropriate, the referral source about the final disposition of the referral
    3. Conducting intake interviews that accurately collect all the required information
  4. Working with team to facilitate pregnant and parenting students' educational attainment, including graduation from high school by:
    1. Connecting them with resources to develop internal locus of control over identified problem areas and necessary life skills to move toward school achievement and high school graduation
    2. Promoting a positive attendance and punctuality norm and culture of academic valuation and school engagement
    3. Supporting students' completion of the program, including compliance with program policies and procedures
    4. Working with the student support team to connect students to college opportunities as well as postsecondary educational alternatives to college that could match their interests, needs, and abilities
    5. Acknowledging, recognizing, and celebrating students' positive milestones and accomplishments
  5. Providing in-school and after-hours support and referrals for students in crisis

Skills Development
  1. Supporting with facilitating peer group education sessions that provide a skills-building foundation to help students be successful and engaged parents and develop financial literacy and other basic self-sufficiency skills, including being able to access resources and services.
  2. Assisting to promote students' engagement in healthy relationships. Cultivate a sense of self-worth and right to healthy relationships with partners, peers, family, and the community, along with the skills to constructively resolve conflict, solve problems, and negotiate
  3. Connecting with parents when necessary to increase student support and accountability and achieve desired student outcomes. Facilitate parents' participation in their child's education at the very outset by engaging them in the intake process. Provide parents with weekly updates and monthly reports about their child's school attendance, behavior, and academic progress

Family and Community Engagement
  1. Assisting with home visits to strengthen the family's capacity and resolve to support their pregnant or parenting child's education and healthy development. Include the father of the student's child, as appropriate and as long as it is a healthy relationships for the student and child-regardless of whether the student the student and father are engaged in an intimate relationship or are co-parenting but no longer in an intimate relationship
  2. Providing referrals and support access to services and resources in the community
  3. Supporting with conducting continuous, realistic evaluation of program efforts and revise them to improve student outcomes

Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Experience with developing or delivery of SEL
  • Understanding and experience working with mental health and behavioral issues
  • Understanding of cross cultural needs/issues in schools
  • Effective communication skills in writing and oral communication
  • 3 years experience working in Alternative Education setting
  • Understanding of trauma interventions
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel: Google: Mail, Calendar, Contacts, Documents and Drive
  • Ability to travel between multiple school sites and work on a flexible schedule
  • Ability to act as a liaison for family, school and medical personnel


Preferred:
  • BA in counseling and/or psychology
  • Experience in Social Psychology
  • Written fluency in English and Spanish
  • Strong experience working with community agencies
  • Experience in development and support of Behavioral Support Plans/Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBA)
  • Experience and understanding of middle school and high school students
  • Successful classroom experience working with behavioral and/or special education students


Terms: Managerial Employee Tier B

This position subject to the City of Boston residency requirement.

NOTE: School-based managerial employees will work 223 days between July 1st and June 30th each year. The 223 day work-year will include the 180 days in which school is in session, and the additional days will be determined by the employee and the principal or headmaster of the school.

School-based managerial employees are not eligible for vacation time or compensatory time. In the event of school cancellation due to snow or inclement weather, school-based managerial employees need not report to work.
