About UP Education Network

UP Education Network manages and operates six schools in Boston, Lawrence, and Springfield, MA. We serve over 3,000 elementary and middle school students. UP is invited by local school districts to restart chronically underperforming district schools as UP Academies. Each UP Academy shares the same mission: to ensure that students acquire the knowledge, skills, and strength of character necessary to succeed on the path to college and to achieve their full potential.

Role

The Managing Director will advise the UP Academy Kennedy instructional leadership team and oversee the implementation of the academic program throughout the school. The Managing Director will directly manage the Principal, as well as other school staff and will report to UPEN's Chief Academic Officer.

Specific Responsibilities

Academic Leadership

Develop, lead, and manage UP Academy principal in his/her roles as instructional leader and manager to continuously improve the quality of the school.

Monitor, provide feedback to, and evaluate principal and other members of the school staff, including, when necessary, coaching and developing members of the leadership team and a small group of teachers.

Support leadership at schools to ensure high quality implementation of the schools' educational design, including standards, curriculum, assessments, instructional guidelines, school schedule, and the school culture.

Provide exemplary leadership to all members of the school's community and foster a commitment among all staff members to the development and fulfillment of the school's mission and objectives.

Manage and coach the principal in reviewing assessment tools on a regular basis and analyzing school performance for effectiveness in improving student achievement.

Manage and support the principal in building an effective, efficient, action-oriented, and highly accountable data analysis and action planning process that ensures individual student and whole-class deficiencies are overcome after each interim assessment cycle.

Support and manage the leadership team in hiring, evaluating, developing, retaining, and, when necessary, dismissing staff.

Manage and coach school leaders on on-boarding new teachers and staff.

Perform other duties as needed in order to support the success of the school, including but not limited to providing additional staff recruitment support where needed. z

Stakeholder Engagement

Work with members of the UP Education Network Academics, Operations, Finance, and Talent teams to ensure strong, streamlined communication with Western Massachusetts stakeholders

Qualifications

A strong belief in UP Education Network's core values: Students, Community, Humility, Resilience, and Humor

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including strong public speaking skills

Experience in adult management and development

At least 4 years of school leadership experience

A valid Massachusetts License as a Principal/Assistant Principal in the appropriate grade level

Bachelor's degree is required, advanced degree is preferred

Current authorization to work in the United States - A candidate must have such authorization by his or her first day of employment

Compensation and Benefits

UP Academy follows the salary scales and salary placement policies of each UP Academy's host school district or state turnaround plan; please see the relevant union's collective bargaining agreement for additional details.
