    The filling of this position is based upon continued funding in the Board of Education budget.

    General Statement:
    The Special Assistant to the Superintendent is a personal aide, a professional who allows the Superintendent to expand and improve the scope of his/her services to the Stamford School District.

    The Special Assistant to the Superintendent is a position of confidence, requiring a strong and positive working relationship with the Superintendent and extreme discretion in handling confidential information and materials.

    The Special Assistant to the Superintendent manages the office of the Superintendent, including correspondence, phone traffic, and scheduling, but also has the opportunity to:
    • Drive special projects
    • Assist in parent-related and community matters
    • Interact with senior staff, members of the elected Board of Education, and persons outside the District staff

    The Special Assistant to the Superintendent will be expected to show dedication, confidence, and creativity in all aspects of work.

    The Special Assistant to the Superintendent serves at the pleasure of the Superintendent of Schools.

    Major Responsibilities:
  • Cultivating an office environment in which all stakeholders feel connected, known, and valued (10%)
  • Cultivating trust among all stakeholders by demonstrating integrity in all matters and the ability to maintain confidences.
  • Coordinating informal gatherings to build connections among Central Office staff.
  • Managing the Superintendent's workflow and priorities by managing his/her schedule and anticipating steps ahead (50%)
  • Preparing for and following up on internal and external meetings including distributing agendas and minutes and coordinating logistics. When needed, participating directly in external meetings and following up with the relevant parties.
  • Providing members of the Executive Leadership Team leverage in moving projects forward by assisting with information gathering, communicating with different parties, developing and monitoring plans, keeping track of responsibilities, and so on.
  • Prioritizing and managing multiple projects simultaneously and following through on issues in a timely manner.
  • Identifying and calendaring school and community-based activities that the Superintendent should attend.
  • Identifying and effecting processes to improve the efficiency and efficacy of the office, leadership team and system.
  • Overseeing day-to-day operations and staff services that may include but may not be limited to bookkeeping, vendor payments and relations, office environment, travel and event logistics (25%)
  • Managing other duties and special projects assigned by the Superintendent (15%)

  • Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards:
    Works in standard office and school building environments.

    Knowledge and Skills:
    • Ability to concurrently manage a wide range of tasks.
    • Dedication to timely completion of assigned tasks but also the overall successful functioning of the Superintendent's Office.
    • Skill and patience in dealing with all who come in contact with the Superintendent's office.
    • Ownership of responsibilities including those undertaken on his/her own initiative.
    • Adaptability and willingness to fully participate in unexpected challenges as they arise.
    • Belief in the success of Stamford's teachers, students, and administrators.
    • Professionalism, discretion, and reliability.

    Qualifications:
    • Bachelor's Degree.
    • 3-5 years professional experience in a range of areas and responsibilities.
    • Experience in an urban school district or nonprofit preferred.
    • IT skills and competency in Spanish preferred.

    Work Year:
    12 months
