POSITION: Manager of Communications/Public Information Officer

REPORTS TO: Superintendent

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Master's Degree preferred
  • Demonstrated leadership in public relations and marketing

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:

To be responsible for the leadership and management of the following functions:
  • Internal communications within the District
  • External communications between the District and the community
  • Promotion of the District's mission and goals

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Direct External Communications:
  • Provide information to parents and the general public about issues and activities related to the Christina School District and its schools and programs.
  • Serve as a clearinghouse of information about the district, and provide timely responses to inquiries.
  • Produce a district newspaper and electronic newsletter, oversee content management of the District's websites, and oversee the use of social media.
  • Serve as a liaison between schools and the public, including assisting with communications related to emergency situations or student incidents.


Direct Internal Communications:
  • Handle frequent communications with staff through various vehicles.
  • Disseminate information district-wide related to employee issues, school closings, school incidents, and other relevant matters.


Direct Media Relations:
  • Serve as District spokesperson and handle all contact with news media.
  • Provide news releases and background information, schedule press conferences, organize media coverage of schools, and handle media relations responsibilities for the superintendent and Board.


Manage District Website and Social Media:
  • Manage content and oversee development of District website, electronic newsletter, and email lists
  • Produce electronic newsletter including feature and news articles about the district's students, staff, and schools.
  • Supervise Communications and Marketing Specialist and Program Assistant.


Direct Advertising, Publicity, and Publication Development:
  • Arrange for advertising and publicity for district and school events. Develop image campaigns to promote specific activities and events.
  • Develop a variety of publications to promote district events and activities. Publish a district newspaper mailed to all district residents, and a district calendar featuring student artwork.
  • Produce informational and marketing materials to reach specific audiences.
  • Handle all aspects of event planning for staff recognitions, community events, and various district events and activities.


Superintendent and Board Support:
  • Provide support and information/communications to the superintendent and Board of Education, including fact sheets, talking points, speeches, remarks, reports, and updates on school incidents, school closings, and emergency responses.
  • Oversee the Board Honor Roll process, including all communications, presentations, and media follow-up.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
