Our Director of Talent plays a pivotal role in our mission and is responsible for managing how we attract, hire, engage, retain, and support the top quality talent that we know will be required to achieve our goals. The Director of Talent sits on the network team and is directly accountable to the Chief Operating Officer, while partnering closely with the Executive Director, Principals, and other hiring managers on staff to find and keep fantastic individuals at all levels of the organization.

ABOUT THE POSITION

Creating and executing recruiting plans, both holistically for all roles as well as tailored to each individual position we hire for.
Developing and maintaining a diverse and high-quality pool of candidates in advance of need
Building and maintaining a strong network with sources of excellent school and network talent via varied channels in the education realm; cultivating relationships with individuals who can provide access to great people who we may want on our staff
Managing initial steps within each hiring process, including:
  • Drafting and posting job descriptions
  • Screening applicants via their materials and phone interviews
  • Monitoring and tracking status of applicants in the process, and managing overall communication with both applicants and hiring managers
  • Assisting in performing background and reference checks
  • Supporting and participating in on-site interviews for finalists as appropriate, in partnership with hiring managers
Designing and managing the operations of employee orientation and onboarding, as well as terminations and departures, to ensure smooth transitions and compliance with all applicable laws
Maintaining employee database via our co-employer relationship, as well as other personnel software and systems used to manage and support employees
Supporting the ongoing revisions of and adherence to our employee policies and handbook; investigating and making determinations around any suspected breaches of policy
Researching and making recommendations around compensation and benefits that will allow us to recruit and retain superior staff
Administering payroll and benefits day-to-day
Serving as the primary point of contact for employees for human resources questions and needs
Operating with a growth mindset and committing to ongoing professional and personal growth in a collaborative environment
Working well with others on a trailblazing team on the far South Side of Chicago


ABOUT YOU
  • Bachelor's degree required (advanced degree preferred)
  • At least 3-5 years' experience in talent recruitment and/or human resources highly preferred
  • Experience working at or with schools in low-income communities preferred
  • Proven relationship building skills
  • Organized and attentive to detail; experience managing complicated processes that involve a lot of steps and people
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • General knowledge of various employment laws and practices
  • Ability to maintain the highly confidential nature of human resources work
  • An unwavering belief that all students can succeed in college, regardless of demographics
  • A strong work ethic and a passion for being part of a team-oriented, mission-driven school culture
  • Ability to be solutions oriented and approach each day with resilience and a sense of possibility
  • Ability to travel for recruitment meetings, career fairs, etc. and maintain a flexible work schedule
