    This is a non-contracted position under Agreement for Services only with no benefits.

    Salary:
    $30.00 per hour

    Summary:
    Provide consecutive interpretation services in English and Spanish. Be adaptable to schedule changes and on-call needs of district, schools and personnel.

    Job Duties:
    • Interpret consecutively for parents and school personnel at school meetings and events as requested and available
    • Function as a communication link between non-English speaking and limited-English speaking families and APS school/district personnel
    • Interpret faithfully, always conveying the thought, intent, and spirit of the speaker and/or student while maintaining confidentiality, an impartial attitude, and professional demeanor at all times
    • Attend interpreter trainings provided by the district
    • Employ good customer service and clear enunciation, pronunciation, pleasant and professional voice as well as polite forms of expression
    • Render correct concepts and meanings according to the conventions of established interpretation protocol
    • Provide clear and accurate renditions with no additions or omissions
    • Understand protocol and terminology in the education industry
    • Demonstrate commitment to cultural sensitivity and working in a diverse environment

    Job Qualifications:
    1. Bilingual and proficient in English and Spanish
    2. Familiarity with K-12 educational environments and educational interpreting preferred
    3. High school diploma or equivalent
    4. Excellent listening, retention and note-taking skills to maintain a high level of accuracy
    5. Certification as an interpreter or able to pass the district’s consecutive interpretation assessment. Or meet at least one of the following alternate qualifiers:
      • Certificate of an accredited interpreting training such as: Bridging the Gap medical certificate, Court Interpreter Certification, Community Interpreter Certificate, CCA Translation and Interpretation (TRI) Certificate or Degree in specific language from an accredited university
    Other Information:
    Hourly position based on need. Applicants are not guaranteed a minimum number of hours worked per week or school year.
